KPD Identifies Suspect in Fishpond Murder
On Wednesday, May 31, 2017, this case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office, and a complaint was returned charging 84 year-old Santiago Vasquez with Murder. Vasquez was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke and set his bond at $1,000,000.
Killeen Police Investigates a Murder on Fishpond Lane.
Killeen Police were dispatched to the 2800 block of Fishpond in reference to shots fired on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at approximately 3:13 p.m. Upon the officers’ arrival they found a black male lying in the roadway with gunshot wounds.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were involved in an ongoing dispute. At the time of the incident, the two began a verbal altercation which became physical. During the physical altercation, the suspect assaulted the victim with his cane and at some point discharged a firearm at the victim. The victim, 80 year-old John Wesley Seth Jr. of Killeen, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke at 4:28 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensics Sciences of Dallas. Through the investigation detectives were able to identify the suspect and have taken him into custody.
This case continues to be investigated by the Killeen Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, Homicide Unit and information will be released as it becomes available.
