Killeen Police Department’s K9 Yari to get donation of body armor

Killeen, TX (June 22, 2022): Killeen Police Department’s K9 Yari will receive a bullet and stab protective vest thanks to a charitable donation from non-profit organization Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. K9 Yari’s vest is sponsored by Dale and Trish Veith of Killeen Texas and will be embroidered with the sentiment “Born to Love-Trained to Serve-Loyal Always”. Delivery is expected within eight to ten weeks.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., established in 2009, is a 501(c)(3) charity whose mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. This potentially lifesaving body armor for four-legged K9 officers is U.S. made, custom fitted, and NIJ certified. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 4,682 vests to K9s in all 50 states at a value of $6.9 million, made possible by both private and corporate donations.

The program is open to U.S. dogs that are at least 20 months old and actively employed and certified with law enforcement or related agencies. K9s with expired vests are also eligible to participate. There are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the United States.

Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. accepts tax-deductible contributions in any amount, while a single donation of $960 will sponsor one vest. Killeen Police Investigate a Motorcycle Fatality

Killeen, TX (June 17, 2022): A 21-year-old male is deceased after being struck by a vehicle that occurred during the evening hours.

On Friday, June 10, 2022, at approximately 9:33 p.m., Killeen Police were dispatched to the intersection of W. Veterans Memorial Blvd. and Stringer Street in reference to a 911 call about a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a black Honda Motorcycle was traveling eastbound in the inside lane in the 700 block of Veterans Memorial Blvd. when the driver of a black Mercedes failed to yield-right of way-turning left onto Stringer Street causing the motorcycle to strike the front of the Mercedes. The impact caused the motorcycle operator and his passenger to be ejected and coming to a rest on the roadway. They were both immediately transported to local hospitals in critical condition. The driver of the Mercedes was treated for minor injuries at the scene and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

On June 13, 2022, the operator of the motorcycle, Coy Caleb Morris, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Keith Reed.

This investigation is ongoing, and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Investigates a Late-Night Shooting

Killeen, TX (June 13, 2022): One male is in custody after a five-hour standoff with officers.

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4400 block of Alan Kent Drive in reference to a shots fired disturbance. Upon the officer’s arrival, they were told that the victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal altercation when the suspect displayed a handgun and discharged it. After several failed attempts were made for the suspect to come out, the Tactical Response Unit was deployed due to the nature of the call. At approximately 4:12 a.m., the suspect exited the apartment and was apprehended.

A female that was inside the apartment was unharmed and no other injuries were reported.

This investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information at this time.

36-Year-Old Male Suspect Charged with Murder

Killeen, TX (June 12, 2022): Killeen Police received a complaint from the Bell County District Attorney’s Office charging Juan Enoc Bamaca Pliego for Murder. He is currently in the Bell County Jail.

The name of the victim has been identified as Helena Deloris Holmes.

This is the 10th Murder for the City of Killeen in 2022.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE INVESTIGATE A LATE-NIGHT HOMICIDE

Killeen, TX (June 11, 2022): Killeen Police are currently investigating the death of a 51-year-old female.
On Friday, June 10, 2022, at approximately 11:23 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of E. Veterans Memorial Boulevard in reference to a disturbance. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a female and male inside a hotel room. The female was unresponsive and when paramedics arrived, they advised that she had no signs of life. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the female deceased at 12:39 a.m. He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. The male was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

The name of the deceased female has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division continue to actively investigate this incident and there is no additional information at this time.

Killeen Police Identify Deceased Male

Killeen, TX (June 9, 2022): Killeen Police have identified the deceased male as 31-year-old Quentin Damichael Williams. 

The female is still in the hospital and in stable condition.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division continue to actively investigate this incident.  There is no additional information at this time.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE CONDUCT A SHOOTING INVESTIGATION ON DONEGAL BAY

Killeen, TX (June 8, 2022): Killeen Police are currently investigating a domestic disturbance that left one female in critical condition and one male deceased. 

On Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at approximately 4:56 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of Donegal Bay in reference to a shooting victim.  Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a female suffering from a gunshot wound.  She was immediately airlifted to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition.  Officers also located an unresponsive male suffering from a gunshot wound.  Paramedics arrived and advised that the male had no signs of life.  Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the 31-year-old male deceased at 5:41 a.m.  He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

The name of the deceased male has been withheld pending notification of next of kin. 

The 31-year-old female is currently listed in stable condition.

There were two juveniles under the age of 17 inside the residence that were unharmed.  Their relationship is unknown at this time.
