Killeen Police and Texas Rangers are Investigating an Officer Involved Shooting

Killeen, TX (October 31, 2022): The Killeen Police Department and the Texas Rangers are investigating an officer involved shooting that occurred on 10th Street.

The preliminary investigation revealed that on October 30, 2022, at approximately 2:37 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of E. Veterans Memorial Blvd in reference to a 911 call about a carjacking. Officers were told that a suspect pointed a handgun at the victim and stole the victim’s white sedan.

At approximately 2:48 p.m., officers responded to a 911 about a robbery and a suspicious armed subject at the AutoZone parking lot located at 502 Veterans Memorial Blvd. When officers arrived, they located the armed suspect. They attempted to make contact with the suspect, giving him multiple commands to drop his weapon and detain him. The suspect continued to move throughout the area on 10th Street, when he attempted to hijack a pickup truck that was passing by. Officers continued to contain the suspect from the public, when he jumped into a nearby marked police car that was unoccupied. As officers continued to give the suspect commands to disarm himself and surrender, he started to drive off and officers discharged their duty weapons, striking him. The suspect drove into small brush and tree line, coming to a stop. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White in stable condition.

The Killeen Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and the Texas Rangers responded to the scene and an investigation is ongoing, being led by the Rangers.

As per protocol, the two officers, Officer Michael Swan, a 16-year veteran, and Officer Jennifer Amezquita, a 4-year veteran, will be placed on administrative leave.

Killeen Police Identifies Child in Death Investigation


Killeen, TX (October 25, 2022): The name of the child in this death investigation has been identified as Omari Prince Sherron.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE INVESTIGATE THE DEATH OF A 4-YEAR-OLD

Killeen, TX (October 21, 2022): Killeen Police are actively investigating the death of a 4-year-old male.

On Thursday, October 20th, 2022, at approximately 12:28 p.m., Killeen Police Officers responded to a call regarding a deceased 4-year-old male at McLane’s Children Hospital in Temple. Officers were notified that the 4-year-old male was transported to the hospital by Killeen Fire Department EMS from the 4900 block of John David Dr. in Killeen with medical issues.

Bell County Justice of the Peace Keith Reed pronounced the child deceased at 2:15 p.m. and ordered an autopsy at Southwestern Institute of Forensic Science. Due to the victim’s age, his name will not be released at this time.

Detectives are actively investigating this Death and there is no additional information at this time.

Killeen Police Identifies Pedestrian in Hit and Run Fatality

Killeen, TX (October 17, 2022): The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Kevin Roderick Gordon II.

Investigators with the Traffic Unit continue to look for a greyish/ black SUV with front-end damage along with a broken headlight.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE INVESTIGATE A HIT AND RUN FATALITY

Killeen, TX (October 3, 2022): Investigators with the Killeen Police Traffic Unit are investigating a pedestrian fatality on Fort Hood Street.

On Sunday, October 2, 2022, at approximately 9:12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 3100 block of S. Fort Hood Street in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located an unconscious male lying in the roadway. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke at 10:22 p.m.
The preliminary investigation determined that the pedestrian was crossing the Fort Hood Street from the eastside of the roadway to the westside. When a greyish/black SUV-type vehicle traveling northbound in the inside lane of S. Fort Hood Street struck the pedestrian. A second vehicle traveling behind the SUV subsequently struck the pedestrian. The first vehicle failed to stop and render aid and fled the scene. The second vehicle, a Nissan Murano, came to a stop.
The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Witnesses on the scene were able to report the first vehicle was grey or black in color and was traveling with no active headlights. Investigators with the Traffic Unit are looking for a greyish/ black SUV with front-end damage along with a broken headlight.

Killeen, TX (October 14, 2022): The victim has been identified as Davarian James Lawrence.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE INVESTIGATE A MURDER ON EVERGREEN

Killeen, TX (October 9, 2022): Killeen Police are actively investigating the Murder of a 14-year-old male.
On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at approximately 6:10 a.m., Killeen Police Officers responded to a call about a shooting victim in the 200 block of Evergreen Drive. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Killeen EMS arrived and performed life saving measures. The victim succumbed to his injuries and Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced him deceased at 7:15 a.m. on scene.

Due to the victim’s age, his name will not be released.

This is the sixteenth Murder in the City of Killeen for 2022.

Killeen Police Identifies 34-Year-Old Murder Victim

Killeen, TX (October 13, 2022): The victim has been identified as Phyllis Campbell.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division, with limited information from associates/friends of the victim, used multiple investigative methods to locate and contact next of kin for the victim, however, no next of kin were located. The department is requesting the public’s assistance in locating next of kin for Phyllis. If you have any information about her next of kin, please contact the department at 254-501-8800.

UPDATE NEWS RELEASE: FORT HOOD SOLDIER CHARGED WITH MURDER

Killeen, TX (September 21, 2022): Murder suspect is currently in the Bell County Jail.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect were involved in a domestic dispute when he displayed a handgun and shot the victim. The suspect left the residence towards Fort Hood where he was later detained by military police. Officers with the Killeen Police Department were notified, and they arrested the suspect and transported him to the Killeen City Jail.

The Killeen Police Department Robbery-Homicide Unit presented the case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office. Michael Leonard Moore, 35 years-old, was charged with Murder. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson arraigned Michael Leonard Moore and set his bond at $1,000,000.
The information on the victim, 34-year-old female, will be released once next of kin notifications have been made.

The case is still an active investigation, and no other information will be released at this time.

UPDATE NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN ARREST MURDER SUSPECT

Killeen, TX (September 20, 2022): Killeen Police currently has one suspect in custody and is currently in the Killeen City Jail pending charges. The suspect is an active-duty military soldier.

The information on the victim, 34-year-old female, will be released once next of kin notifications have been made.

The case is still under investigation and no other information will be released at this time.

CORRECTION – NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE INVESTIGATE A MURDER
Killeen, TX (September 19, 2022): Killeen Police are actively investigating the thirteenth Murder in the City of Killeen.

Officers with the Killeen Police Department were dispatched on Monday, September 19, 2022, at approximately 7:56 a.m., to the 1100 block of Wales Drive in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located one victim who was deceased. The victim was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson at 9:00 a.m. He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
We want to let the community know that this was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public.

Killeen Police Investigate a Fatality Crash on State Highway 195

Killeen, TX (October 9, 2022): A 26-year-old female is deceased from an early morning crash.

On Sunday, October 9, 2022, at approximately 6:05 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of S Fort Hood Road in reference to a two-vehicle crash. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a red Ford Fusion and a blue Hyundai Elantra with serious damage. The driver of the Hyundai was trapped and had to be extricated by the Killeen Fire Department. She was airlifted to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition. The driver of the Ford, the sole occupant, was transported by ambulance also to Baylor Scott & White in stable condition. The passenger of the Hyundai was treated and released at the scene.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the red Ford was traveling south in the inside northbound lane of S Ft Hood Road when it struck a blue Hyundai that was traveling north in the inside northbound lane.

The driver of the Hyundai, Destiny Marie Cruz Lopez succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.

This investigation is ongoing by the departments Traffic Unit and no other information will be released at this time.

Killeen Police Investigate the Fifteenth Murder for 2022

Killeen, TX (October 6, 2022): Killeen Police are actively investigating the Murder of a 55-year-old male.

On June 24, 2022, Officers with the Killeen Police Department were dispatched at approximately 2:50 a.m. to the 1800 block of N. 4th Street in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located one victim suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers immediately started to perform life saving measures until paramedics arrived. He was transported to Baylor Scott and White in Temple.

The victim, Joe Sidney Williams Junior succumbed to his injuries on August 3, 2022, and was pronounced deceased at the hospital by Justice of the Peace Theodore Duffield. He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Detectives with the Robbery-Homicide Unit received the final autopsy, and it was determined that the death of the victim was ruled Murder.
