KPD Investigates a Crash on Texas Avenue
Killeen Police are investigating an overnight crash that occurred on Texas Avenue.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a 1984 Chevrolet Caprice for running a red light at the intersection of Rancier Avenue and 8th Street, on June 1, 2017, at approximately 1:23 a.m. The suspect driver refused to stop and a vehicle pursuit ensued. The male driver continued to flee north bound on 8th Street, leading officers though the neighborhood disregarding numerous stop signs. When the driver turned on W. Texas Avenue, he lost control of the vehicle and it traveled up a guide wire of an electric pole, causing the vehicle to flip and catch on fire. During the course of the crash, the driver was ejected and became entrapped underneath the vehicle. Officers and civilian bystanders worked together to lift the vehicle and rescue the driver. He was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in stable condition. A female passenger was in the vehicle and was unharmed.
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate this crash and information will be released as it becomes available
