On Sunday, January 31, 2016, Detectives from the Killeen Police Department’s Special Investigations Division were informed of a subject who had an outstanding warrant for Murder out of Macon, Georgia (Bibb County Sheriff’s Office) was currently in Killeen.  The suspect, 22 year old Curtis Dewayne Jackson Jr, was located at 1600 East FM 3470 and was taken into custody without incident.  Jackson was transported to the Killeen City Jail where he was booked on the outstanding warrant.

Killeen Police Investigate Shooting on Goodhue Drive.

On Thursday, January 28, 2016, this case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and complaints were returned charging 20 year old Brodrick Jarod Hill with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.  Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke set his bonds at $500,000 and $100,000 respectively.  Mr. Hill is currently in the Bell County Jail and the victim is in stable condition at Baylor Scott & White Hospital.

Officers responded to the 1200 block of Goodhue Drive after receiving a 911 call telling them a female had been shot on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at 2:19pm.    Officers arrived and found a female inside a silver Honda Accord, suffering from a gunshot wound.  The victim was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition and later airlifted to the Baylor Scott & White Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.  The officers were told the suspect had fled the area on foot and were given a description of him.  Officers remained in the area searching for the suspect when an officer located a male matching the description of the suspect in the 2000 block of Hinkle Ave.  Once the male saw the officer he began to run, officers gave chase and he was taken into custody at 2:26pm; he was transported to the Killeen City Jail.

UPDATE – January 26, 2016

The victim has been identified as 38 year old Takesha Lareua Harris.

 Killeen Police are investigating an early morning death at a Carrollton Avenue residence.

Officers responded to the 1600 block of Carrollton Avenue on Sunday, January 24, 2016, at 5:30am, after receiving a call from the male resident who came home to find his sister unresponsive inside.  Officers arrived and located a 38 year old female lying on the floor inside the residence.  The preliminary investigation revealed that the resident came home around 5:30am and when he entered he saw that the house had been ransacked that his sister was lying in the hallway unresponsive.   The officers began performing CPR on the female, but were unable to revive her.  Justice of the peace Garland Potvin arrived and pronounced the female deceased at 6:03am.  He also ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.  Through the investigation the detectives believe this death is a result of a home invasion and this residence was specifically targeted.

The cause of the female’s death is undetermined at this time; detectives are awaiting the preliminary autopsy results to make that determination.

This case continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police are attempting to identify a suspect who tried to steal money from an elderly female’s bank account using fraudulent identification.

Officers were called to the 1^st National Bank Texas Trimmier Banking Center, on August 31, 2015, at 2:54pm, when a black female entered the bank drive through and attempted to cash a check and withdraw funds from an account belonging to another person.  As the officers were enroute to the bank they were given information that the suspect female had left the area in gray Mazda SUV.

Officers were advised the female attempted to cash a check with a fraudulent ID through the drive through on an account that was not hers.  The victim in this case is an elderly white female and the suspect was using identification of a 32 year old black female.

Killeen Police investigate a near drowning at a home daycare.

Officers responded to the 3000 block of Bachelor Button on Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 11:21am, after receiving a 911 call in reference to a child that was unresponsive.  Upon the officers arrival they located the resident performing CPR on a 2 month old male child.  The officers continued with the CPR until Killeen Fire Department paramedics arrived and took over.  The child was immediately transported by air to the McLane’s Children’s Hospital in Temple in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 48 year old homeowner/child caretaker was giving the 2 month old child a bath when she heard a noise in the area where the other toddlers were playing in the residence.  The caretaker left the child in the bathtub to investigate the noise and when she came back the 2 month old child was face down in the water.

The child is currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at McLane’s Children’s Hospital in critical condition, at this time.  This case continues to be investigated and information will be provided as it becomes available.

The names of the persons involved in this incident will not be released at this time.

Officers responded to the 2400 block of E. Veteran Memorial Blvd on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at 2:09pm, after receiving 911 calls in reference to a person being hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle.  Upon the officers arrival they located a gray 2015 Dodge Ram pickup and a 79 year old man who had been riding a bicycle.  The male was immediately transported by ambulance to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with life threatening injuries where he was stabilized and later transferred by air to Baylor Scott & White Hospital.  Ronald Boyce succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace David Barfield at 4:52pm.

The KPD Traffic Unit began investigating this crash and it was determined that the male left the parking lot of the Centroplex Recycling Center and began riding his bicycle diagonally northwest across VMB and into the path of the oncoming Dodge pickup that was traveling westbound in the outside lane of traffic.  The driver of the Dodge pickup was not injured and there will be no charges filed in his crash.

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a special traffic enforcement detail on Tuesday, January 12, 2016.  This enforcement will took place during a 3 1/2 hour period at the 7-11 Convenience Store parking lot located in the 1000 block of Willowsprings Rd.  Officers issued 51 citations for crossing property, 12 charges other than crossing property and 2 warnings were given for a total of 65 vehicles stopped.

This enforcement was a result of numerous ongoing complaints of vehicles crossing the property illegally.

The Traffic Unit enforced the crossing property law:  Traffic Code 545.423 (b) an operator may not cross or drive in or on a sidewalk, driveway, parking lot, or business or residential entrance at an intersection to turn right or left from one highway to another highway.

Officers conducted this same enforcement detail in February 2012. Within a four hour period Officers issued more than 100 citations to violators.  Due to the fact that this was happening so frequently, while all the officers involved were issuing citations, they were unable to cite other violators.

The purpose of special traffic enforcement details is to inform citizens of the actual violation and to create awareness of the actual law.

Killeen Animal Services partners with Fort Hood Veterinary Services to initiate the Killeen Spay and Neuter Program.

Members of the 43D Medical Detachment Veterinary Services Support (MDVSS) and the Killeen Animal Services have formed a partnership in an effort to help maintain unit and individual readiness and proficiencies, while simultaneously providing a service to the community that will enhance the likelihood of successful adoption of shelter animals and to help reduce the number of unwanted animals.

On Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at 1:15pm, the new partnership will be showcased as the 43D MDVSS will be at the Killeen Animal Shelter to perform spay/neuter surgeries.  Killeen Police Chief Dennis Baldwin and 43D MDVSS Commander, LTC Carl Shaia, will be at the Killeen Animal Shelter, located at 3118 Commerce Drive, both will be available for comment.   Also in attendance will be members of the KISD Career Center Certified Veterinary Assistance Program, to observe the aspects of the veterinary profession specific to the U.S. Army.   Dr. Davis with the El Centro Pet Clinic will also be supporting this operation by providing rabies vaccinations for the shelter animals that go through this clinic.

Once a month the 43D MDVSS will send a Veterinary Service Support Team to conduct spay/neuter surgical operations at the Killeen Animal Shelter.  Under the supervision of a Veterinary Corps Officer, each team will set up and utilize fielded medical equipment to conduct spays and neuters of animals selected by shelter personnel, that will become available for adoption.
