Killeen Police Traffic Unit Conducts Railroad Crossing Safety Detail
Killeen, TX (May 8, 2026): On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit conducted a Railroad Crossing Safety Detail from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. to promote traffic safety and educate drivers on the importance of obeying railroad crossing laws.
During the enforcement detail, officers conducted eleven traffic stops resulting in multiple enforcement actions for violations related to railroad crossing safety and other observed traffic infractions.
The following violations were observed during the detail:
• Stopped too close to the railroad tracks — 6
• Stopped on the railroad tracks — 4
• Disregard of railroad crossing signal — 1
The purpose of the detail was to increase awareness of railroad crossing laws, enhance public safety, and reduce the risk of vehicle versus train collisions. The presence of officers in the area also served as a visible deterrent to unsafe driving behaviors near railroad crossings.
The Killeen Police Department reminds motorists to always obey railroad crossing signals, never stop on railroad tracks, and remain alert when approaching railroad crossings.
