Killeen, Texas (September 16, 2026): The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit has made two arrests in connection with the July 22, 2026, fatal auto-pedestrian crash on Interstate 14 that resulted in the death of 25-year-old Faith L. Sidman of Springfield, Oregon.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at approximately 10:43 p.m., officers responded to a report of an auto-pedestrian crash on westbound Interstate 14 near Rosewood Drive. Due to the severity of the crash, the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit responded and assumed the investigation.

The continued investigation determined that Sidman was a back-seat passenger in a gray 2019 GMC pickup operated by 22-year-old Elwood Dentler of Fort Hood. During a verbal argument inside the vehicle, Sidman exited the pickup while it was traveling westbound on Interstate 14. Dentler continued from the scene with a front-seat passenger.

Sidman fell onto the roadway in the outside westbound lane, where investigators determined she was struck by a silver 2017 Toyota Prius driven by 64-year-old James Arthur Stevens of Copperas Cove. Stevens also left the scene following the collision.

Sidman was subsequently struck by an Audi sedan. The driver of the Audi immediately stopped and remained at the scene. Other motorists also stopped to assist.

Following the crash, the front-seat passenger who had been traveling with Dentler returned to the area but did not return directly to the crash scene. The passenger was later located in Harker Heights and arrested for Driving While Intoxicated by the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit with the assistance of the Harker Heights Police Department.

During the investigation, Dentler provided investigators with a false account of the crash. On Thursday, August 13, 2026, Dentler was arrested and charged with False Statement to a Police Officer, a Class B misdemeanor. He subsequently posted a $2,000 bond and was released.

Traffic Unit investigators presented the case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office for review, and a complaint was returned charging Dentler with Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony. A warrant was issued, and Dentler was arrested on Saturday, August 22, 2026. He subsequently posted a $100,000 bond and was released.

Investigators continued working to identify the additional vehicle that left the scene. Through investigative efforts, information provided by the community, and data obtained through the Flock camera system, investigators identified the silver Toyota Prius driven by Stevens and located the vehicle in Copperas Cove.

Investigators determined the Toyota had damage consistent with its involvement in the crash and learned that Stevens had taken the vehicle to a dealership in Austin on or around the morning of Thursday, July 23, 2026, to have collision damage repaired.

During an interview with investigators, Stevens acknowledged being involved in a collision at approximately the same time and location where Sidman was killed but denied involvement in the collision involving Sidman.

On Monday, September 14, 2026, the Bell County District Attorney’s Office returned a complaint charging Stevens with Collision Involving Death, a second-degree felony, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Stevens was located by the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force in Copperas Cove. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Bell County Jail, where he is pending arraignment.
