Killeen Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Stan Schleuter Loop

On June 1, 2017 at about 2:58 p.m., a silver 2005 BMW was stopped facing north in the inside lane of Bunny Trail attempting to turn left to travel west on Stan Schlueter Loop. A Maroon 2006 GMC Envoy was stopped in the northbound middle lane, also turning left to go west on Stan Schlueter Loop.  A Yellow 2006 Nissan Xterra SUV was traveling east in the outside lane of Stan Schlueter Loop.  According to witnesses, the Nissan ran the solid red light as the BMW and GMC entered the intersection. The front of the Nissan struck the driver’s side door area of the BMW, causing it to spin and strike the driver side of the GMC SUV. The Nissan and BMW sustained major damage.

The driver of the BMW was initially transported to Seton Medical Center of Harker Heights by Killeen EMS.  She was subsequently flown to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff at 5:22pm.

The deceased is identified as 23 year-old Maria Clarissa Aro Tabonares of Killeen.

The crash continues to be investigated by our Traffic  Unit.  Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD Investigates Crash on Interstate Highway 14 – UPDATE

Update:

March 30, 2017

The pedestrian involved in this incident, Darrell Kees, 44 of Katy, Texas, succumbed to his injuries this morning at Baylor Scott and White Hospital.  He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Barfield at 5:17 a.m.  The Killeen Police Department continues to investigate this incident.  Investigators are still looking for the driver of the third vehicle involved in this incident.  Anyone with information is urged to call the Killeen Police Department at 254-501-8800 or Bell County Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477).

Killeen Police investigate a late night crash on Interstate Highway 14.

Killeen Police responded to a 911 call in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11:22 p.m.  Upon the officers’ arrival, they found a white male lying on the ground near the Trimmier Exit off ramp; he was immediately airlifted to the Baylor Scott and White Hospital in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a white Ford F350 was traveling westbound in the middle lane on IH-14 when the driver noticed a pedestrian attempting to cross northbound on the interstate.  As the driver attempted to change lanes to the outside lane, the left side of her vehicle struck the pedestrian.  A white Chevy Sonic and an unknown vehicle were also traveling westbound in the outside and exit lanes, when the pedestrian was seen in the roadway near the exit ramp.  The pedestrian was struck first by the Chevy Sonic and subsequently struck by the unknown vehicle, which fled the scene. The occupants of the vehicles reported no injuries.

The current condition of the 44 year-old male pedestrian is critical but stable.

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate this crash and information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD Investigates Early Morning Fatal Crash

UPDATE: The deceased 38 year old male has been identified as Antwan Devon Garland of Killeen.

Killeen Police investigate fatal crash E. Veterans Memorial Blvd.

Officers responded to a 911 call about a crash in the 5900 block of E. Veterans Memorial Blvd., which involved a white Ford van and a red Honda Civic Thursday, November 24, 2016, just before 3:00am.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the 2005 Ford van was traveling westbound on E. Veterans Memorial Blvd and the 2011 Honda Civic was traveling eastbound on E. Veterans Memorial Blvd.  The Civic crossed the center lane into the path of the van causing the vehicles to collide in an offset head on manner.

The 38 year old male driver of the Civic was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin at 3:42 am. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas. The driver of the van was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

KPD Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Stan Schlueter Correction

Correction: The operator of the motorcycle, 25 year old Dominic Marcus Poydras, was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical authorities at 1:52pm.

 

Killeen Police Department investigates a fatal motorcycle crash on Stan Schlueter Loop.

Officers responded to a 911 call telling them a crash involving a van and a motorcycle at the intersection of Stan Schlueter Loop and Bunny Trail at 12:52pm on Saturday, March 14, 2015.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 2010 Yamaha Motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Stan Schlueter Loop, when a 1998 Dodge Wagon Van turned south onto Bunny Trail in front of the motorcycle.  The operator of the motorcycle was unable to avoid the vehicle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the right side of the van.  There were two occupants inside the van; the right seat passenger was transported to Metroplex Hospital with minor injuries.  The operator of the motorcycle, 25 year old Dominic Marcus Toydras, was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical authorities at 1:52pm.

This crash continues to be investigated by the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit and information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD Investigates Fatal Crash on 38th Street

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating a fatal crash in the 500 block of N. 38th St.

Officers responded to a report of a motorcycle crash with serious injuries in the 500 block of N. 38th St. on Saturday, September 20, 2014, at approximately 8:30pm.  Upon the officers arrival they located the male motorcycle rider who was seriously injured.

The preliminary report revealed that a blue 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser, with two occupants, was southbound on 38th St. attempting to turn left into the Killeen High School student parking lot.  A black 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling northbound in the outside lane on 38th St.  The 17 year old female driver of the PT Cruiser failed to yield the right of way – turning left, and pulled in front of the motorcycle.  The motorcycle rider laid the motorcycle down and then struck the side of the PT Cruiser.  The motorcycle rider was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries; he was pronounced deceased by medical authorities at 9:11pm.  The driver and the occupant in the PT Cruiser were unharmed.

The name of the 23 year old victim, a Fort Hood soldier, has been withheld until the notification of his next of kin has been made.

Killeen Police Investigate Fatal Traffic Accident – Update

Killeen Police investigate early morning fatal crash at W.S. Young and Veteran’s Memorial Blvd.

Officers responded to W.S. Young Dr. and Veteran’s Memorial Blvd, at 4:14 am on Saturday, July 19, 2014, after receiving a 911 call telling them there was an accident with injuries.  Upon the officers arrival they located a white Nissan Altima and a blue Hyundai Elantra turned over onto the driver’s side with the unresponsive driver pinned inside.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the Nissan, with three occupants, was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of Veteran’s Memorial Blvd, approaching W.S. Young Dr. and the Hyundai was traveling westbound on Veteran’s Memorial Blvd, turning southbound onto W.S Young.  The Nissan collided with the Hyundai causing it to leaving the roadway hitting the curb in the parking lot and coming to rest on its side; the Killeen Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to remove the driver from the vehicle.  Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the 27 year old driver deceased at 4:50am and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

The front passenger in the Nissan was airlifted to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in serious condition and the driver of the Nissan was transported to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights in stable condition.

The deceased male has been identified as Troy Richard Eric Taylor of Killeen

Killeen Police Investigate Child Struck by Vehicle – Update

UPDATE – May 21, 2014

On Wednesday, May 21, 2014, the victim involved in the crash in the 4200 block of Cessnock, succumbed to his injuries at the Scott & White Children’s Hospital. Justice of the Peace Don Engleking pronounced the 8 year old male deceased at 1:45pm. At the request of the family the victim’s name will not be released.

The Killeen Traffic Unit continues to investigate this crash and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Department investigates a child hit by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on Cessnock Drive.

Officers responded to a crash in the 4200 block of Cessnock Drive on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 6:11pm. Upon the officers’ arrival, witnesses told them that an 8 year old boy was riding his bicycle south in the 6400 block of Nessy Drive on the eastside of the roadway, when he failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Nessy Drive and Cessnock Drive. The child continued riding his bicycle into oncoming traffic that was traveling eastbound in the 4200 block of Cessnock Drive. The driver of the black Ford pickup attempted to stop, but was unable to do so before hitting the child. The child was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition and subsequently airlifted to the Scott and White Children’s Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Killeen Police Investigates Fatal Motorcycle Crash on Rancier Avenue

Killeen Police Department investigates a fatal motorcycle crash in the evening hours.

Officers received a 911 call on Monday, March 11, 2014, at 6:53pm, in reference to a crash involving a Yamaha motorcycle and a Dodge minivan. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located the operator of the motorcycle who was suffering with life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the black Yamaha Motorcycle was traveling east on Rancier Ave. in the inside lane, when a Maroon Dodge Caravan attempted to turn south onto Crockett. The operator of the motorcycle was unable to avoid the vehicle, causing the motorcycle to collide with the passenger side of the minivan. There were three occupants inside the minivan; one person was treated for minor injuries and released at the scene. The operator of the motorcycle, 18 year old Chase William Evans, was pronounced deceased at 7:38pm by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke. The operator of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Killeen Police Investigate Rollover Crash – Update

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate a one vehicle rollover crash that occurred on Becker Dr., during the early morning hours on Saturday, March 8, 2014.

The crash occurred when the driver of a 2004 Land Rover Discovery that was occupied by five teenagers failed to negotiate a curve in the 1400 block of Becker Driver. The vehicle left the roadway, hit two mailboxes, overturned, ejecting two of the passengers and injuring another two passengers.

The 18 year old male passenger who was ejected, Jacob Jones, was transported to Scott & White Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries. On Sunday, March 9, 2014, Jacob Jones succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:19am. The 14 year old female who was ejected is now at the Scott & White Children’s Hospital in critical condition. The 17 year old female and 14 year old female passengers were transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.   The 17 year old driver was not injured in this crash.

The names of the other victims have been withheld at this time due to the nature of the injuries.

The Traffic Unit is continuing to investigate this crash and they have determined speed is one of the contributing factors. Investigators are asking anyone who has information about this crash or events leading up to this crash to contact the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit, Officer Potvin at 254-501-8818.
