Killeen Police Investigate a Murder on Atlas Avenue
Killeen, TX (April 8, 2023): Killeen Police are actively investigating the Murder of an eighteen-year-old male.
On Saturday, April 8, 2023, at approximately 1:17 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Atlas Avenue in reference to a shooting victim. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a male suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers started to perform life saving measures until paramedics arrived. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson at 2:13 a.m.
The name of the victim has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This is the first murder victim for the City of Killeen this year.

Killeen Police Investigate a Fatality on Robinett
Killeen, TX (April 8, 2023): A 45-year-old is deceased from a multiple-vehicle collision.
On Friday, April 7, 2023, at approximately 8:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Robinett Road and Gus Drive in reference to a 911 call about crash involving multiple vehicles. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located an unconscious male passenger in a red sedan. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced him deceased at 10:06 p.m. at the scene.
The preliminary investigation revealed that four vehicles were involved in a collision while traveling southbound on Robinett Road and one vehicle of those vehicles came to rest after it struck a nearby residence. Speed and weather are potential contributing factors for this crash.
Four victims were transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple, one victim was transported to Advent Health and one to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights all in stable condition.
The name of the deceased male has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This fatality investigation is active and at this time no other information will be released.

Killeen, TX (March 27, 2023): Killeen Police have identified the female as 47-year-old Jamileth Joana Shapiro.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE RESPOND TO A LATE-NIGHT SHOOTING
Killeen, TX (March 25, 2023): Killeen Police are investigating a domestic incident on Hank Drive.
On Saturday, March 25, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of Hank Drive in reference to a shooting victim. Upon the officers arrival, they located a female suffering from a gunshot wound. They immediately started to perform life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. She was transported to the Carl R. Darn all Army Medical Center in critical condition. The female succumbed to her injuries and Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson pronounced her deceased at 1:18 a.m.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the female and the male were involved in a verbal altercation when the female grabbed a butcher knife and was holding it to her side during the argument. The male grabbed a gun and a single shot was fired, striking the female in the chest area. The male called 911 and started CPR until officers arrived and took over.
No arrest has been made at this time.
Detectives continue to actively investigate this incident and there is no additional information at this time.

Killeen Police Respond To A Late Night Shooting

Killeen Police Investigate a Motorcycle Fatality on Twin Creek Drive
Killeen, TX (March 23, 2023): Killeen Police are investigating the death of a 46-year-old male.
On Thursday, March 23, 2023, at approximately 2:08 a.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of North Twin Creek Drive and East Rancier Avenue in reference to a 911 call about a crash. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located a male and a motorcycle lying in the roadway. Officers immediately started to perform life-saving measures. The male was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition. The operator, Shondalero Basken, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Twin Creek Drive when he attempted to navigate a right-hand turn to begin traveling eastbound Rancier Avenue. The operator failed to control his speed and struck a concrete median, causing him to be ejected.
Investigators with the Traffic Unit continue to investigate this fatality and there is no additional information at this time.

Killeen Police Charge Third Murder Suspect
UPDATE NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE CHARGE A THIRD MURDER SUSPECT
Killeen, TX (March 20, 2023): A third arrest has been made in the Murder of Jonathon Allen Hampton.
Through the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division Robbery-Homicide Unit identified a third suspect in this case. The case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging 26-year-old Tyshawn Vincente Navarro with Murder.
Garza County Justice of the Peace Angela Massey arraigned Navarro and set his bond at $500,000.00. Navarro is currently in the Garza County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and at this time no other information will be released.

UPDATE NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE CHARGE A SECOND MURDER SUSPECT
Killeen, TX (February 13, 2023): A second arrest has been made in the Murder of Jonathon Allen Hampton.
Through the investigation, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division Robbery-Homicide Unit identified a second suspect in this case. The case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging 21-year-old Ahmad Elijah Jamel Demps with Murder. With the assistance of the United States Marshals Office – Fugitive Task Force and Officers with the Killeen Police Department K9 Unit and Organized Crime Unit, Demps was located and arrested.
Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson arraigned Demps and set his bond at $1,000,000.00. Demps is currently in the Bell County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and at this time no other information will be released.

A complaint was returned charging Antonio Trevon Edwards Hodges with Murder. Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman arraigned Hodges and set his bond at $1,000,000. Hodges is currently in the Bell County Jail.

On Wednesday, September 16, 2020, detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division were notified that the victim in this offense succumbed to their injuries. The victim is identified as Jonathon Allen Hampton, 24, of Killeen. Justice of the Peace Theodore Duffield pronounced Hampton deceased at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple. An autopsy was ordered to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
Detectives with the Homicide Unit are asking for the public’s help in identifying a person of interest. The images are of an individual wanted for questioning related to this offense. This individual also owns, or had access to, the white Volvo S60 pictured in the security footage.

On Monday, September 14, 2020, at approximately 2:19 a.m., Killeen Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fairview Dr. in reference to a shooting. The victim, a 24-year-old male, was transported by helicopter to Baylor Scott and White in Temple. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and remains in critical condition.

Killeen Police Investigate a Motorcycle Fatality
Killeen, TX (February 19, 2023): Killeen police are investigating the death of a 28-year-old male dirt bike operator.
On Saturday, February 18, 2023, at approximately 6:46 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Westcliff Road and Moonlight Drive in reference to a 911 call about a crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle. Upon the officers’ arrival, they locate an unconscious male lying in the roadway. Emergency personnel immediately began life saving measures. The male was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. Lamar Lavance Lilly was pronounced deceased at 8:59 p.m. by medical staff.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of the dirt bike was traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on Westcliff Road when a Mercedes traveling westbound on Westcliff Road began to turn southbound onto Moonlight Drive, the dirt bike struck the passenger side of the car. The impact caused the dirt bike operator to be ejected, coming to a rest in the roadway. The driver of the car remained on scene. The dirt bike operator was not wearing a helmet and was on the street illegally with no lights.
The dirt bike was reportedly stolen out of Nolanville.
Investigators with the Traffic Unit continue to investigate this fatality and there is no other information at this time.

UPDATE NEWS RELEASE: 23-YEAR-OLD MALE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ROBBERY
Killeen, TX (January 12, 2023): On Wednesday, January 11, 2023, this case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging Jayonn Jordan Moore with Aggravated Robbery. Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson set his bond at $250,000. Moore is currently in the Bell County Jail.

NEWS RELEASE: KILLEEN POLICE INVESTIGATE AN AGGRAVATED ROBBERY ON FRONTIER TRAIL
Killeen, TX (January 9, 2023): Officers were dispatched at approximately 8:45 p.m. to the 4600 block of Frontier Trail in reference to a robbery. The victim told officers that a black male approached him at gunpoint and demanded his wallet, phone, and vehicle. The suspect then fled the area in the victim’s vehicle, a Honda Civic.
At approximately 9:09 p.m., officers located the vehicle near Stan Schlueter Loop and Mesa Drive and attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the suspect driver refused to stop. The vehicle sped off westbound on Elms Road and officers pursued the vehicle. The driver attempted to turn southbound on Trimmier Road, when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole. The suspect was taken into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported.
The impact on the utility pole caused a power outage in the area and Oncor is currently on scene making repairs.
This case is active, and charges are pending review with the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
