KPD Reminding Drivers of ‘Move Over/Slow Down’ Law

The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit will be conducting a special traffic enforcement detail on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Interstate-14.  This enforcement is intended to remind motorists about the ‘Move Over/Slow Down’ Law, 545.157 requires drivers nearing stopped emergency vehicles -with lights activated and/or tow truck to either slow down or change lanes.  The law states a driver must either vacate the lane closest to the stopped emergency vehicle if the road has multiple lanes traveling in the same direction or slowdown 20 miles per hour below the posted speed limit and to increase the emphasis on the danger of traffic enforcement throughout the city.
