KPD Identifies Victim in Buckley Drive Shooting

The victim in the Buckley Drive shooting has been identified as Troy Anthony Afano Jr. of Killeen. 

 Formal charges are still pending with the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

 

Killeen Police investigate a late night shooting on Buckley Drive.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Buckley Drive at 11:15pm on Sunday, June 5, 2016, after receiving a 911 call in reference to shots fired.  Upon the officers’ arrival they located a male lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.  The victim was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center; he was later airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.  Justice of the Peace G.W. Ivey pronounced the 20 year old male deceased at 2:43am and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

The preliminary investigation revealed that there was an altercation in the area of Clarawood and Buckley and at some point a gun was produced and the victim was shot.  Officers located a male who was involved in the shooting and detained him; he was later taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

The identity of the victim has been withheld pending notification of his next of kin.  The name of the suspect has been withheld until formal charges are brought forward by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

This incident continues to be investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division and information will be release as it becomes available.
