Killeen Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting
The Killeen Police Department investigates an early morning shooting on Zephyr Road.
Officers received a 911 call on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:57 am, in reference to a Burglary of a Habitation in progress at 2316 Zephyr Road. While officers’ were enroute, they were notified that shots were fired at the residence. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a white male in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound. The male was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition; he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 4:30 am by medical authorities. The gunshot victim was identified as 32 year old Terry Lee Moon Jr. of Killeen; Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The preliminary investigation revealed the resident was asleep when his dog started barking and he saw someone coming through his bedroom window. The resident fired his weapon striking the male; he immediately called 911 for officers’ assistance.
The 29 year old resident was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail. This case was reviewed by the Bell County District’s Attorney’s Office and a complaint was not returned at this time pending further investigation and the resident was released from custody.
Detectives continue this death investigation and information will be released as it becomes available.
