Child Involved in Hit-and-Run Released from Hospital
October 6, 2017 – UPDATE
Officers with the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit have located the silver Dodge Charger and have determined that this vehicle did not strike the child. New information was obtained that a dark blue or black sedan with a round emblem on the front and silver tinted windows struck the child.
Officers are seeking witnesses who my have information about this crash to contact the Killeen Police Department at 254-501-8830 or Crime Stoppers at 254-526-TIPS (8477).
The 5 yer-old boy has been released from the hospital and is doing well.
Killeen Police Investigate a Hit and Run Crash Involving a Child
On September 24, 2017, at approximately 12:12 p.m., Killeen Police responded to a traffic crash involving a pedestrian in the 800 block of Jeffries Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a 5 year-old boy who had been struck by a vehicle that subsequently fled the scene. The boy was transported to McLane’s Children’s Hospital in Temple by Killeen Fire Department Ambulance. At this time, the severity of the child’s injuries are unknown, but they appear to be serious.
Witnesses reported that a late-model silver Dodge Charger with black diagonal stripes on the side was traveling southbound on Jeffries when it struck the child. After striking the boy, the Charger stopped for a moment a couple of houses down. A late-model red Ford Mustang or Dodge Challenger that appeared to be traveling with the Charger stopped alongside. After a few moments, both vehicles left the scene, southbound on Jeffries.

Killeen Police investigate afternoon bank robbery at the Heart of Texas Federal Credit Union.
Officers responded to 1612 South Fort Hood Street, at 1:22 p.m., after receiving a 911 call letting them know the Heart of Texas Federal Credit Union had just been robbed. Officers were told that a male entered the bank and displayed a note to the teller, demanding money. The suspect fled in an unknown direction on foot with an undisclosed amount of money.
The suspect is described as a black male with a slender build and was last seen wearing a red ball cap, a white t-shirt, red jean shorts, white tennis shoes and sunglasses.

Killeen Police investigate three late night shootings.
Officers responded to three 911 calls in reference to shots fired between 11:30 p.m. on Monday, October 2, 2017 and 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 3, 2017. The first call was reported from the 2000 block of Schwald Road, the second from the 2000 block of Prestige Loop and the third from the 600 block of Estelle Avenue. Detectives are in the early stages of the investigation to ascertain if these shootings are related. There were reports of damage to vehicles and residences and fortunately no one reported any injuries.

KPD Identifies Homicide Victim
October 2, 2017 – UPDATE
The shooting victim from the Homicide in the 700 block of Reese Creek Road has been identified as 39 year-old Stephen M. Rowe of California.
Detectives continue to investigate this Homicide and information will be released as it becomes available.
On September 28, 2017, at approximately 12:00 p.m., Killeen Police responded to the 700 block of Reese Creek Road, near the Maxdale Road intersection, in reference to a man down call. Upon arrival, officers met with a U.S. Postal Carrier who was delivering mail in the area. The mail carrier reported that he was traveling westbound on Reese Creek Rd and observed the person lying in the roadway. The male subject was deceased and had an apparent gunshot wound. The victim is a black male, approximately 30 years old, and has not been positively identified.
The victim was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Claudia Brown. An autopsy was ordered. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Possible Rabid Bat Found in Killeen
For Immediate Release
On September 23, 2017, at approximately 3:00 p.m., a dog found a dead bat in the 2300 block of E. Veteran’s Memorial Blvd. The dog, a 14 week-old Chihuahua, brought the bat to its owner, who in turn brought it to Killeen Animal Services. Following protocol, the bat was sent to The Texas Department of State Health Services – Laboratory Services in Austin for testing. Animal Services was notified that the tests were inconclusive and must be treated as though they are positive.
This public notification is required in such cases. There is no other evidence of rabies in the area. Anyone observing a dead animal, one appearing sick or behaving strangely should contact the Killeen Police Department, Animal Services at 254-501-8800 immediately.

The Killeen Police Department Conducts Traffic Detail in Conjunction with National Rail Safety Week
For Immediate Release
This week is National Rail Safety Awareness Week. The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit, along with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Police Department, worked a traffic enforcement detail today at the railroad crossing on State Highway 195 (Fort Hood St.) Six Killeen PD Traffic Officers and one BNSF Special Agent participated in the detail and stopped vehicles for violations of the Texas Transportation Code pertaining to railroad crossings. The detail began today at approximately 10:30 a.m. and was completed at approximately 12:45 p.m.
Forty vehicles were stopped during the detail and officers issued 53 citations for the following:
30 for stopping within 15 feet of a railroad track
5 for disregarding railroad signal lights (Official Traffic Control Device)
5 for stopping on the railroad tracks
13 for other non-hazardous violations (Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility, No Driver’s License, etc.)
The Killeen Police Department wants to remind the public to observe all railroad warning signs. It is unsafe and unlawful to disregard warning signals and stop on or within 15 feet of the tracks.

The Killeen Police Department Investigates an Aggravated Robbery of an Individual
For Immediate Release
On September 26, 2017 at about 7:34p.m., Killeen Police responded to an aggravated robbery of an individual the 1300 block of S. 2nd Street. Reportedly, a 25 year-old male suspect was armed with a handgun and attempted to rob the victim. The victim fought back against the suspect. During the fight, the suspect fired a single shot that struck a nearby vehicle’s tire. The suspect was also bitten by the victim’s dog during the altercation. The suspect fled the scene while being pursued by witnesses. The witnesses were able to direct responding officers to the suspect, who was taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered the suspect’s weapon and discovered it had been reported stolen in College Station, Tx.
The suspect was treated on-scene for the dog bite and transported to KPD Jail. The case will be screened with the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.
