Killeen Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting – Update
The Killeen Police Department investigates an early morning shooting on Zephyr Road.
Officers received a 911 call on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at 2:57 am, in reference to a Burglary of a Habitation in progress at 2316 Zephyr Road. While officers’ were enroute, they were notified that shots were fired at the residence. Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a white male in the backyard suffering from a gunshot wound. The male was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition; he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 4:30 am by medical authorities. The gunshot victim was identified as 32 year old Terry Lee Moon Jr. of Killeen; Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The preliminary investigation revealed the resident was asleep when his dog started barking and he saw someone coming through his bedroom window. The resident fired his weapon striking the male; he immediately called 911 for officers’ assistance.
Update:
After further investigation it was determined that the victim, Terry Lee Moon Jr., lived at the residence. The investigation revealed that Terry had left the residence earlier in the evening and told his brother that he was not coming home that night. Knowing this, his brother locked the renter’s deadbolt on the door; there is no key to unlock this deadbolt.
Terry Moon came home unexpectedly and was unable to get into the house through the front door. He went around to his brother’s window and began opening the window. At this point his brother believed an intruder was breaking into his home and fired a shot hitting him.
The resident was taken into custody for investigative purposes but later released.

The 29 year old resident was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail. This case was reviewed by the Bell County District’s Attorney’s Office and a complaint was not returned at this time pending further investigation and the resident was released from custody.
Detectives continue this death investigation and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Seek Missing Person – Update
The Killeen Police Department is investigating the report of a missing female and is asking the community if anyone has seen or heard from her.
On January 3, 2014, family members of Ida Denise Ray reported to officers that Ida was last seen picking up her dog at the Animal Control Shelter in Killeen and hasn’t been seen since. She was driving her 2006 Blue Jeep Commander bearing Texas license plate JWH 543.
Ida is a 43 year old black female with black hair and brown eyes. She is approximately 5’3” tall and weighs approximately 150 pounds. The family advises she is on medication and has not taken it recently and they are concerned for her safety.
Detectives are asking anyone who sees Ida Denise Ray or knows her whereabouts to contact the Killeen Police Department at 254-200-7905 or in the event she is somewhere other than Killeen to contact the local law enforcement agency.
UPDATE
Ida Denise Ray was located by deputies with the Eastland County Sheriff’s Office. She has been transported to a local hospital for precautionary treatment.

Killeen Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Fort Hood Street
Killeen Police are investigating a crash that occurred on S. Fort Hood Street in the evening hours of Saturday, January 4, 2014.
Officers received a 911 call at 7:12 pm in reference to a vehicle hitting a pedestrian in the 1100 block of S. Fort Hood Street. Witnesses told officers that they saw a black male, wearing dark clothing standing in the center turn lane when a maroon Honda Accord, driven by a 64 year old female, was traveling north in the inside lane of the 1100 block of S. Fort Hood Street and attempted to turn left into the center turn lane when she hit the male. Michael Miguel Thomas, 45 of Killeen, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke at 7:43pm; no autopsy has been ordered at this time.
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate this crash and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Fire Marshall’s Office Arrest Two For Arson
On December 17, 2013, at approximately 12:30am, the Killeen Fire Department was dispatched to the Starlite Station located at 3310 S Ft Hood St in reference to a fire alarm.
The preliminary investigation revealed that several fires were intentionally set within the structure causing moderate and minor fire damage to the manager’s office and other locations within the facility to include water damage.
The Killeen Fire Marshal’s Office and the Killeen Police Department Burglary Detectives later determined that a previous burglary had occurred on December 3, 2013, where the suspects’ objective was to obtain cash from the clubs safe and intentionally set fire in order to destroy evidence and security footage.
This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging 34 year old William R. Twist of Killeen and 20 year old Jacob H. Lugmayer of Fort Hood with Arson; their bond was set at $50,000.00 each. Mr. Twist is currently at the Bell County Jail and Mr. Lugmayer will be transferred there later today.
