Killeen Police Identify Remains

June 21, 2020 – UPDATE

The skeletal remains were identified with the assistance of Ft. Hood Criminal Investigation Division and the U.S. Army Dental Corps as those of the missing Ft. Hood soldier Gregory Morales.  Autopsy results are still pending to determine the cause and manner of death. 

The Killeen Police Department Homicide Unit continues to investigate and continues to ask the public for assistance if they have any information.

On Friday, June 19, 2020, at approximately 9:00 AM, Ft. Hood Criminal Investigation Division contacted the Killeen Police Department in reference to a tip they received.  The tip indicated that a body was located in a field in the 3200 block of Florence Road, in Killeen.  Detectives with the Killeen Police Department Homicide Unit met with members of Ft. Hood CID at that location.  Ft. Hood CID contacted a Texas Parks and Wildlife K9 for assistance in searching the field.  During the K9 search, skeletal remains were located and a crime scene established.

At approximately 11:10 AM, Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin made the pronouncement of death.  An autopsy has been ordered.

The Killeen Police Department would like to thank Ft. Hood Criminal Investigation Division, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Texas Department of Public Safety for the assistance they have provided with this investigation.
