KPD Arrests Two for Aggravated Robbery

Killeen Police investigation leads to the arrest of two men on felony charges.

Officers responded to the 2200 block of Andover Dr. in reference to a report of shots fired in the area at 10:30 pm on July 27, 2016.  At 10:50 pm, while still checking the area, the officers were advised there was a report of an armed subject at 501 E. Central Texas Expressway.  As the officers were checking the area, they located a silver Honda that was occupied by three males.  Two of the males got out and started running when the officers arrived; the two males were caught and detained.   Through the investigation the officers learned the two males were involved in a Robbery and attempted to flee when they saw the officers.

This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and complaints were returned charging 32 year old Ernie Figueroa-Baez and 35 year old Howard James Thomas Jr. each with Aggravated Robbery.  Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Figueroa-Baez and Thomas and issued a $200,000 bond for each; they were subsequently transferred to the Bell County Jail.

KPD Investigates Aggravated Robbery Near Nightclub

Killeen Police investigate Aggravated Robbery near downtown night club.

Officers responded to the Cuckoo’s Nest located at 104 W. VMB, after receiving a 911 call at 3:13am, telling them someone had been shot.  Upon the officers arrival they located four males who were victims of a robbery.    The preliminary information received is that the four males were leaving the club through the back door when two armed light skinned black or Hispanic males accosted them and demanded their money.   For unknown reasons one of the victims was shot and two others were assaulted.  The victim who was shot was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in stable condition.  The other two victims were transported to Metroplex Hospital in stable condition.

KPD to Participate in National Night Out

Killeen to join cities nationwide for “America’s Night Out Against Crime”

On Tuesday, October 4th, neighborhoods throughout Killeen are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “33rd Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.

National Night Out is designed to:  (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

From 6 to 9 p.m. on October 4th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Killeen and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.  Neighborhoods are encouraged to host a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, contests, and youth activities.  Call and register your neighborhood so they will get a visit from the police department, fire department and McGruff the Crime Dog.

“The National Night Out program is an outstanding campaign to help build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships.  On October 4th, we invite citizens of Killeen and neighborhoods nationwide to join forces with us to give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party.”  It’s also a chance to have a really good time!

KPD Investigates Fatal Crash on Clear Creek

Killeen Police investigate a fatal crash on Clear Creek Road.

Officers responded to the intersection of Clear Creek Road and Janelle Drive on Monday, August 1, 2016, at 9:15 am, after receiving 911 calls in reference to a crash involving a red Harley Davidson motorcycle and a silver Toyota Highlander SUV. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located the driver of the motorcycle lying on the side of the roadway; Killeen EMS immediately transported him to Metroplex Hospital in critical condition.  Unfortunately the driver, 24 year old Logan Ellis Rainwater, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 9:42 am, by medical personnel.  The 72 year old driver of the SUV was also transported to Metroplex Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Toyota Highlander was traveling southbound on Clear Creek Road in the middle left turn lane and the driver of the Harley Davidson was traveling northbound in the outside lane.  The driver of the SUV attempted to turn eastbound onto Janelle Drive and failed to yield right of way, causing the motorcycle to collide into the SUV.  The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and the motorcycle subsequently struck a white Nissan 370Z that was at the stop sign.

This crash continues to be investigated by the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit.

KPD Conducts Prostitution Operation

Killeen Police conducted a prostitution operation and arrested several subjects involved.

On July 22 and 23, 2016, members of the Killeen Police Department Organized Crime Unit conducted an investigation into prostitution in the city of Killeen after receiving complaints from citizens and receiving several tips.

During the operation detectives arrested 19 individuals and charged them accordingly.

Killeen Animal Shelter Continues to Participate in the “Clear the Shelter” Program

Killeen Animal Services continues to participate in the “Clear the Shelters” program which is sponsored by the VIP Petcare Community Vet Clinics.

The Killeen Animal Shelter has received 150 vouchers through VIP Petcare, for free specific veterinary services to be issued to anyone who adopts a shelter pet.  The Killeen Animal Shelter will continue to participate in “Clear the Shelters” program until August 29, 2016 or until all vouchers are distributed.

VIP Petcare partners with shelters and rescue groups nationwide, providing affordable clinics, supplies and services for adopted pets and their parents.  VIP Petcare provides a wide variety of preventative pet care services, all administered by a local veterinarian.  VIP Petcare Community Clinics, which are located in pet retailers nationwide, provide the highest standard of veterinary care, all supervised by an on-site local veterinarian.  VIP Petcare is bringing innovative pet wellness care on a convenient, predictable schedule.

Services that VIP Petcare provides include diagnostic tests, vaccinations, prescription medications, micro chipping and general wellness check.  No appointment is necessary.

KPD Investigates Early Morning Shooting

Killeen Police investigate early morning shooting.

Officers responded to the 2600 block of Timberline Drive just before 5:30am, after receiving a 911 call about a male who had been shot.  The officers and paramedics arrived to find a 27 year old male with a gunshot wound to the arm.  Officers were speaking to the victim but he was unable to tell them who shot him.  The victim was transported to Seton Medical Center Harker Heights in good condition.  While officers were searching the area just after 6:00am, they located several shell casings in the 2400 block of Cross Timbers Drive.  They also located two vehicles that had been shot in the area as well.

Detectives are continuing to investigate this incident and the circumstances surrounding the shooting.  Information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Looking For A Wanted Man

Killeen Police obtain a warrant for a man who tampered with evidence.

Detectives with the Killeen Police Department are continuing to investigate the recent shootings that occurred in the 3300 block of E. Rancier on Sunday, July 17, 2016.  During this investigation they have revealed that there was another person inside the reddish orange vehicle that fled the scene.  This person took Atrayu Davis to the 1800 block of N. 18th Street, where he was pronounced deceased.  This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office who issued a complaint charging 27 year old Keyante Lermont Kelly with Tampering with or Fabricating Physical Evidence (a third degree felony).

Detectives are asking anyone who may know the whereabouts of Keyante Kelly or have any information about the Murders on E. Rancier, to contact Crime Stoppers at 526-TIPS (8477) or go online anonymously at www.bellcountycrimestoppers.com.  You can also download the app P3 tips on IOS and Android phones.  All information is anonymous and confidential and if your tip leads to Kelly’s arrest you could be eligible for a reward up to $1,000 in cash.

KPD identifies shooting victims.

UPDATE – July 18, 2016

The victim who was pronounced deceased at 3301 E. Rancier has been identified as 29 year old Cortney Turrell Guy.  The victim who was pronounced deceased at 1802 N. 18th has been identified as 28 year old Atrayu Ramal Davis.

 The preliminary investigation reveals that the two males were involved in an altercation.  Both males were armed and they shot each other; both victims succumbed to the injuries they received during this altercation.   Davis was taken from the scene to N. 18th St. by another individual who was in the vehicle at the time of the altercation.

Officers responded to 3301 E. Rancier at 4:48pm, after receiving a 911 call telling them a man had been shot in the parking lot of the Eastlake Shopping Center.  Officers arrived to find a deceased male lying in the parking lot. Witnesses told the officers the male was involved in an altercation with another male who was in a reddish orange vehicle.  At some point during the altercation shots were fired; the male fell to the ground and the vehicle fled the area.  At 4:54pm, another call was received reporting a shooting victim in the 1800 block of N. 18th Street.  The officers arrived on N. 18th Street and located a male who was deceased in a reddish orange vehicle.  Through the investigation it was determined this vehicle was the same vehicle that was involved in the altercation at 3301 E. Rancier.

The male at 3301 E. Rancier was pronounced deceased at 5:23pm by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke and the male on N. 18th Street was pronounced deceased at 5:38pm by Justice of the Peace Bill Cook.  He also ordered autopsies to be conducted on both males.  No arrests were made involving these deaths.

The victims have not been identified at this time.  When they are identified their names will be withheld pending the notification of their next of kin.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division continue to investigate this incident and the circumstances surrounding their deaths.  Information will be released as it becomes available.
