UPDATE-April 16, 2020

The first responding officer arrived at 11:17 p.m. to the address of the domestic disturbance. The officer exited his vehicle and approached the residence on foot.  The officer saw a single male occupant in a vehicle with its engine running.  The vehicle was in the driveway of the residence and the male occupant was reportedly part of the disturbance.  The male was identified as Brandon Antony Rogers, 35, from Killeen.  The officer gave verbal commands to Rogers, twice, for him to stop the car.  Rogers failed to comply and drove towards the officer. The officer discharged his weapon as he was avoiding Roger’s attempt to strike him with the vehicle.

Additional officers in the area located Rogers fleeing the scene.  A vehicle pursuit ensued and during the pursuit Rogers stopped, exited his vehicle, and fled on foot in the 1400 block of Van Zanten Dr.  Officers later located Rogers hiding in a culvert in the 1300 block of S. 2^nd St.  Officers realized that Rogers was injured and immediately notified EMS.

Rogers was transported to Baylor Scott and White with non-life threating injuries.  Medical staff reported that Rogers injuries consisted of two gunshot wounds, one to the left shoulder and another to the right arm.  Rogers was released from the hospital on the morning of April 14, 2020 and was transported to the Killeen City Jail.    

On Wednesday, April, 15, 2020, the Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed this case and issued two complaints charging Brandon Antony Rogers with Aggravated Assault against a Public Servant and Evading Arrest in a Motor Vehicle.  Rogers was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke and Rogers bonds were set at $250,000 and $50,000.  He is currently in the Bell County Jail. 

The officer involved, David Hoffman, has been with the department for 2 years.

On April 13, 2020, at approximately 11:11 p.m., officers were dispatched to a violent domestic disturbance in the 600 block of Vermont Dr.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the first officer arrived on scene at approximately 11:17 p.m. and came into contact with the suspect outside the residence.  During that contact the officer discharged his firearm and the suspect fled in a vehicle.  A vehicle pursuit followed where the suspect vehicle was located unoccupied in the 1400 block of Van Zanten Dr.  Officers conducted a search of the area and located the suspect hiding in a culvert in the 1300 block of S. 2^nd St.    

The suspect was transported to Baylor Scott & White in Temple with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Killeen Police Department Criminal Investigation Division and Internal Affairs Unit responded to the scene and requested the assistance of the Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers for an independent investigation.  In accordance with policy, the Internal Affairs Unit will conduct an administrative review and the Texas Rangers will lead the primary investigation into this incident.  This investigation is in its early stages.

As per protocol, the officer will be placed on administrative leave.

UPDATE – April 2, 2020 11:00 a.m.

This update is to clarify that the two suspects were in custody when the complaints were issued therefore, no warrants were issued by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke.   

UPDATE – April 2, 2020

Through the investigation, detectives with the Homicide and Organized Crime Units were able to determine that this incident was a narcotics transaction.  Two suspects were identified and on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, this case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.  Complaints were returned charging De’Jauna Monte Williams, 18, and Cedric Vernon Henderson Jr., 19, with Murder.  Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke issued warrants for their arrest. 

Williams turned herself into the Police Headquarters and Henderson was located and apprehended in the 2000 block of Trimmier Road without incident.  Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke arraigned Williams and Henderson, setting their bond at $1,000,000 each.  Williams and Henderson are currently in the Killeen City Jail.

Killeen Police Investigate a Murder on Hereford.

On Sunday, March 29, 2020, officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Hereford Lane in reference to a 911 call about a shooting victim at approximately 10:00 p.m.  Upon the officers’ arrival, they located a female lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound.  She was immediately airlifted to Baylor Scott & White in Temple in critical condition.

The 20 year-old female victim succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace David Barfield at 11:44 p.m. at the hospital.  He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

On Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at approximately 10:53 p.m., Killeen Police were dispatched to the 1100 block of Old FM 440 Road in reference to a 911 call about a pedestrian hit and run crash.  Upon the officers’ arrival they located a male lying in the roadway.  He was immediately transported to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the pedestrian walking in the roadway when a white two-tone Ford F250 or 350 pickup truck traveling northbound on Old FM 440 Road, struck the pedestrian and fled the scene.

Through the investigation, Officers with the Killeen Police Department, Traffic Unit, received information from a Crime Stoppers Tip that led to the suspect driver and vehicle.  On Wednesday, March 26, 2020, the Bell County District Attorney’s Office reviewed this case and returned a complaint charging Norlan Ricardo Perez-Corrales with Accident Involving Serious Bodily Injury – Fail to Stop and Render Aid.  A warrant was issued by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke and he set his bond at $200,000.  Perez-Corrales is currently incarcerated in the McClennan County Jail.

UPDATE – On Wednesday, March 24, 2020, this case was presented to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging Jovino Jamel Roy, 22, for Murder.  Roy was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke and set his bond at $1,000,000.  Roy is currently is the Bell County Jail.

Killeen Police Investigate a Late Night Shooting.

On Monday, March 23, 2020, officers were dispatched to the 3700 block of Dustin Court at approximately 10:55p.m., in reference a 911 call about a shooting victim.  Upon the officers’ arrival, they located an unresponsive male lying in the front of a residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim and the suspect were involved in a verbal altercation that became physical.  During the altercation, the suspect fired several shots at the victim and fled the area.  Officers in the area located the suspect at a nearby convenience store; he was taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.

The victim, Michael Steven Wardrobe, 22, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Daryl Peters at 11:22 p.m. at the scene.  He ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division, Homicide Unit, continue to investigate this case and information will be released as it becomes available.

UPDATE – March 24, 2020

Through the investigation, the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit determined that the operators of the Dodge Charger and the Mercedes Benz were racing on a public roadway which resulted in a vehicle crash causing serious bodily injury to others. 

On Monday, March 23, 2020, Investigators presented this case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and two complaints were returned charging CeQuil S. Clemons, 24, and Fredrick L. Mayhan, 47, with Racing on Highway-Causing Serious Bodily Injury.  Today, with the assistance from the U.S. Marshals Task Force, Mr. Mayhan was located and taken into custody without incident.  He was transported to the Bell County Jail.  Mr. Clemons turned himself in at the Killeen Police Headquarters. 

The Department would like to thank the U.S. Marshals Task Force for their assistance and the community for their concern about the victims involved in this incident and overall traffic safety in the city.

 Killeen Police Investigate a Major Crash on W.S. Young.

On Friday, February 28, 2020, at approximately 9:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of W.S. Young Drive and Elms Road in reference to a 911 call about a major crash.  Upon the officers’ arrival, they were advised that three vehicles were involved in a crash.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a gray Dodge Charger and a black Mercedes Benz were traveling northbound at a high rate of speed on W.S. Young Drive.  A Dodge Journey was traveling southbound on W.S. Young and was in the turning lane to make a left turn.    When the driver turned at the intersection at W.S. Young and Elms, the Charger, which was in the outside lane, struck the passenger side of the SUV.  The impact caused the Journey to drift northeast, striking a signal light pole.  The Charger began to route clockwise and its left rear struck the Mercedes, which was in the inside lane, on the right side causing the Charger to turn counter clockwise and come to a rest.

The female passenger of the Journey was airlifted to Baylor & Scott and White in critical condition and the male driver and five children were transported by ambulance.  The male driver and female passenger of the Charger were transported to Seton Medical Center Harker Height with minor injuries.  The male driver and female passenger of the Mercedes reported no injuries.

In our ongoing efforts to perform our essential functions to protect and serve the public, we will be taking several proactive measures to keep our officers, staff and the community safe starting March 20, 2020 until further notice.

Our number one goal and priority is to respond as quickly as possible to life-threatening emergencies, but we want to limit face to face contact as much as possible in accordance to CDC guidelines.  Officers will continue to respond in-person to calls where there is a life safety issue or if it is a call that cannot be taken by phone due to the nature of the call.

Given the current situation with COVID-19 and the recommendations from the CDC, we are taking the following steps:

• For emergencies continue to utilize 9-1-1. For non-emergency, (254) 501-8800. This will free up officers to focus on emergency calls for service.
• When possible, and there is not a life-safety issue, officers and/or a staff member will be available to take reports over the telephone. This will reduce the possible transmission of the virus to the public or our officers, as carriers may not even know they have the virus and are inadvertently transmitting it.
• Temporarily suspending non-essential services such as fingerprinting and background checks. Taxi, Peddler and Towing Permits will be by appointment only by calling (254) 501-8940.
• Limiting access to the main lobby and jail visitor’s area.
• Temporarily suspending our presence at community engagement events.
• Increasing the cleaning schedule of our work spaces to protect to protect the public and our staff.

We are asking for the public’s help to follow these recommendations for customer service:

• All victims who need to file a non-life threatening crime report to call our non-emergency line at (254) 501-8800.
• To request a “press copy” of your filed report, you can email the Records Office at kpdrecords@killeentexas.gov. Please include your name, a contact number and a brief statement in your email.
• To request an appointment for permits by calling the Records Office at (254) 501-8940 during normal operating hours of 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
