Killeen Police Asking for Assistance Identifying a Person of Interest
Officers responded to the Family Dollar store at 416 W. Rancier Ave. on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 8:33pm, in reference to an aggravated robbery. The reporting party told officers that two males wearing masks entered the store. One suspect waited by the door as the other suspect pointed a weapon at the employee and demanded money. The suspects fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was hurt during this robbery.
A person of interest, possibly related to the aggravated robbery, has been identified as being in the store on a previous occasion and detectives have attached photographs of him.

KPD Asking for Help from the Community in Identifying two Burglary Suspects
On Monday, October 12, 2015, officers responded to the Motel 6 at the 800 block of E. Central Texas Expressway in reference to a burglary. Officers were told, by the reporting parties, that several of their personal items were missing from their motel room. The security video shows two males walking the hallway trying to open doors. When the suspects got to the victims room they opened the door and took the victims property.

KPD Warns Citizens of Email Scams
Killeen Police would like to inform citizens of con artists that have increased their efforts to obtain money from law abiding citizens.
There are two different emails that are currently being sent out to citizens all over Texas and they are scams.
One email scam will state that there was an issue with your last ATM Withdraw and will instruct the recipient to download a re-activation form. The email will look like this one:

Killeen Police Charge Suspect in 2014 Murder Case
Killeen Police charge suspect in bus driver’s murder.
Officers responded to the 1400 block of Pine Dr. on Monday, October 20, 2014, at 5:30am, after receiving numerous calls about shots being fired in the area. Upon their arrival, they found a 64 year old female in her driveway with a gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin pronounced the victim, Christine Watkins, deceased at 6:05am.
Detectives followed numerous leads and continued to investigate this case. Through their investigation, they were able to identify a person involved in this murder. This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and on October 1, 2015, a complaint was returned charging 30 year old Andrew Lenard Hardesty with Murder. On Tuesday, October 06, 2015, Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke issued a warrant for his arrest and recommended a $1,000,000 bond. Hardesty is currently in the Bell County Jail on unrelated charges.

Killeen Police Department Participates in Prescription Drug Take-Back Program.
The Killeen Police Department is participating in the DEA Drug Take-Back Initiative that allows for collection of medications that are no longer needed or wanted. This is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.
Beginning Monday, October 5, 2015, and continuing through the weekend through Sunday October 11, 2015, citizens who missed the September Drug Take Back, will be able to leave unwanted drugs with the Desk Officer on duty in the lobby of the Killeen Police Department Headquarters located at 3304 Community Blvd or the Desk Officer on duty at the North Precinct located at 402 N. 2nd St. The DEA will later collect these items for proper disposal.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal. It is important for our citizens to remember that you should not flush unwanted prescription drugs down the toilet, put them in the trash or leave the unwanted medications where others might reach them.
We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of unwanted, unused prescription drugs.

Killeen Police Seeking Assistance in Locating Witness
Killeen Police are seeking assistance in locating a female who may have information about the Danydia Thompson case.
Seven year old Danydia Thompson was abducted during the morning hours in the 900 block o Rev R.A. Abercrombie Dr. in Killeen, on April 30, 1997. She was located deceased days later, south of Killeen along Highway 195. Witnesses reported that she walked away from an area near the school with an adult black male. She was last seen riding “piggy back” on her abductor near the intersection of Veteran’s Memorial Boulevard and Jeffries Avenue in Killeen. Detectives have followed numerous leads and have reason to believe Maria Lashawn Taylor may have information about this case that could possibly lead to the arrest of a suspect.
Taylor has been known to live in Caldwell, TX and frequents cities in the Central Texas area.

Man Involved in 2014 Shooting on Golden Gate Dies at VA Hospital
Officers responded to a report of a suicidal subject in the 4500 block of Golden Gate at 11:38am on Friday, April 04, 2014. Upon the officers’ arrival to 4509 Golden Gate, they were attempting to talk to the male at the residence but he was being uncooperative. As the officers continued to attempt to speak with male, he came outside of the residence armed and began charging at one of the officers. The officers commanded him to drop the weapons, but he continued to charge the officer in a threatening manner; the officer was forced to defend himself by using deadly force.
The suspect was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and underwent surgery. He was subsequently airlifted to Scott and White Memorial Hospital and where he underwent another surgery; he was listed in critical condition at that time, but eventually released from Scott & White Hospital.
This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging Titus Latchison with Aggravated Assault on a Public Servant. He was also indicted by a Bell County Grand Jury on the Aggravated Assault charge. Latchison was released after posting bond and was awaiting his trial.
On Saturday, Sepember 4, 2015, Titus Latchison was pronounced deceased at the VA Hospital in Temple. Justice of the Peace Don Engleking ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The Killeen Police Department is awaiting the final autopsy results that will determine Mr. Latchison’s cause of death. It is unknown when the final autopsy results will be available.

On Tuesday, August 25, 2015, an officer was notified of a theft that had taken place in the 5000 block of Tiffany Circle. The reporting person advised their wallet had been stolen from their residence and their debit card had been used at a Walmart store in Killeen.

Killeen To Join Cities Nationwide for ‘AMERICA’S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME’
On Tuesday, October 6, 2015, neighborhoods throughout Killeen are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “32nd Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 6pm to 9pm on October 6th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Killeen and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Neighborhoods are encouraged to host a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, contests, and youth activities. Call and register your neighborhood so they will get a visit from the police department, fire department and McGruff the Crime Dog.
“The National Night Out program is an outstanding campaign to help build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships. On October 6th, we invite citizens of Killeen and neighborhoods nationwide to join forces with us to give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party.” It’s also a chance to have a really good time!

KPD Investigates Fraudulent Use of Indentifying Information
Killeen Police investigate a Fraudulent Use of Identifying Information case.
On Monday, August 24, 2015, detectives with the Killeen Police Department were asked by detectives with the Coppell, TX, Police Department for assistance. There was a report filed in Coppell after the victim had his debit card used without his permission in Killeen. The victim found that purchases were made at three different locations in Killeen and a still photo was obtained of the suspect.
