KPD Citizens Police Academy Taking Applications
The Killeen Police Department will be hosting its 39th Citizen’s Police Academy with classes beginning on August 22, 2016 and continuing through November 7, 2016. Classes will be held on Monday evenings from 7:00pm until 10:00pm and one additional class on Saturday, October 8th. There will be a total of twelve weeks of instruction, including presentations of the functions and operations of the departments various investigative and administrative divisions. It is an educational and informative program that allows citizens the opportunity to learn about the issues that affect law enforcement efforts in the City of Killeen. Applications will be available at the Killeen Police Department beginning Monday, June 6, 2016; the deadline for applications will be Friday, August 12, 2016, at 5:00pm. Applicants must agree to submit to a background check which includes a criminal history inquiry. There is no cost to anyone who enrolls. KPD Asking for Help Locating a Wanted Person
Killeen Police Department is asking for the community’s assistance in locating a wanted person.
An attempted burglary occurred during the early morning hours on March 4, 2016, in the 4400 block of Lake Rd. Through the investigation a suspect was identified, this case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was issued charging Torico Crutcher with Attempted Burglary of a Habitation, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. Detectives are interested in speaking with Torico Crutcher in reference to the Homicide that also occurred during the early morning hours on March 4, 2016; they believe he may have information that is pertinent to this case.
Torico James Devon Crutcher is a 19 year old male who is 5’ 8” tall and weighs approximately 155 pounds.
HE IS CONSIDERED ARMED AND DANGEROUS; DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPREHEND

Buckley Drive Shooting Update
Update: June 8, 2016
The Bell County District Attorney’s Office has released the male involved in this case pending further investigation. The man’s name will not be released at this time.

The victim in the Buckley Drive shooting has been identified as Troy Anthony Afano Jr. of Killeen.
Formal charges are still pending with the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

Officers responded to the 1500 block of Buckley Drive at 11:15pm on Sunday, June 5, 2016, after receiving a 911 call in reference to shots fired. Upon the officers’ arrival they located a male lying in the roadway suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center; he was later airlifted to Baylor Scott & White Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Justice of the Peace G.W. Ivey pronounced the 20 year old male deceased at 2:43am and ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
The preliminary investigation revealed that there was an altercation in the area of Clarawood and Buckley and at some point a gun was produced and the victim was shot. Officers located a male who was involved in the shooting and detained him; he was later taken into custody and transported to the Killeen City Jail.
This incident continues to be investigated by the Criminal Investigations Division and information will be release as it becomes available.

KPD Searches For Missing Autistic Teen
Allison Burrows was located and is safe. She has returned home to her family..

Killeen Police are searching for a missing autistic teen.
Killeen Police were notified just after 8:00 pm tonight, about a missing teen with Autism. Her parent told officers their daughter was last seen at Shoemaker High School today and the last time they spoke to her was shortly after 12:00 noon. Allison Burrows is a 16 year white female, she is 5’07” tall and weighs 220 pounds, her hair is brown with a purple tint and she has blue eyes. She was last seen wearing an unknown color shirt, blue jeans and black high top tennis shoes.

KPD Conducts Traffic Enforcement Detail
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit initiated a special enforcement detail on Highway 190 today, Tuesday, May 31, 2016, from 6:30 am until 12:00 noon. This detail was part of a citywide traffic education and enforcement action and was citizen complaint driven. The Traffic Unit has been receiving numerous complaints from Killeen drivers about speeding on Highway 190 and conducted this special enforcement detail.
There were a total of 141 speeding violations issued, 4 non-speeding hazardous violations, 14 non-hazardous violations and 6 warning citations issued.
The majority of the violations issued were in excess of 20 miles per hour above the posted speed limit and several violations issued were in excess of 90 miles per hour.
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit reminds you to slow down, give yourself plenty of time to arrive at your destination on time and alive.

Killeen Animal Services Extending Shelter Hours Once A Week
Killeen Police Department Animal Services is extending their shelter hours once a week.
The Killeen Animal Services is pleased to announce that as of Thursday, June 2, 2016, the shelter will be open every Thursday until 7pm. The shelter hours are Monday through Friday 11am until 4pm and Saturdays hours are 11am until 5pm. These extended hours on Thursday until 7pm, allow for citizens to locate their lost animal or to adopt an animal.
Animal Services has hired more employees which allow the shelter to accommodate the needs of the public. Citizens have been asking for the shelter to have longer hours and now one day a week is a start and if this proves to be beneficial for everyone involved it could lead to more extended hours.
The Killeen Animal Services wants the public to remember to Spay or Neuter and Microchip for a healthy happy animal.

KPD Investigates Fatal Crash on Stan Schlueter
Killeen Police investigate an evening fatal crash on Stan Schlueter Blvd.
Officers responded to a 911 call telling them of a crash in the area of Stan Schlueter and Ledgestone on Sunday, May 29, 2016, at 7:22pm. Upon the officers arrival they located a gray Toyota Camry and a silver Honda Accord that had been involved in the crash. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Honda was traveling west on Stan Schlueter in the outside lane when the 17 year old driver in the Toyota pulled onto Stan Schlueter from Ledgestone into the oncoming path of the Honda causing the Honda to collide with the driver’s side of the Toyota. The driver of the Toyota, Jayveon Devone Burks, was immediately transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at 8:11pm. The 16 year old passenger in the Toyota was transported to Baylor Scott & White Hospital in stable condition and the driver of the Honda was transported to Metroplex Hospital with minor injuries.
This crash continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD asking for community’s help identifying a suspect in a debit card abuse case
Killeen Police are asking for the community’s help identifying a suspect in a Debit Card Abuse case.
Officers filed a report, on Thursday May 5, 2016, for several unauthorized transactions made in Killeen using the victims missing debit card. During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to obtain this photograph of the suspect.
