Killeen Police Unveils New Police Unit Design
The Killeen Police Department will soon be deploying new police units with a brand-new look. The 2019 Ford Interceptors are an eye-catching departure from the current design and features blue stripes with “Killeen Police” and the department’s motto, “Dedicated Service” in bold lettering.
The most striking feature of the new design is a multicam camouflage accent stripe. The camouflage stripe is a nod to “The Great Place,” Fort Hood, Texas, and an acknowledgment of the city’s close ties with the military. We are proud to protect the home of our nation’s warriors and of the past military service of many of our officers and employees.

Killeen Police Investigate Homicide on Cantabrian
On Thursday, March 21, 2019, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers responded to the 3100 block of Cantabrian Drive in reference to a 911 call about shots fired. Upon the officer’s arrival, they located a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound inside a vehicle.
The victim, 38-year-old Rudolph Kenyetta Hardison, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke at 11:30 p.m. An autopsy has been ordered to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensics Sciences of Dallas.

KPD Conducts School Zone Enforcement
On Thursday, March 21, 2019, the Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit initiated a special school zone enforcement detail. This enforcement took place during a 1 ½ hour period at the Pershing Park Elementary school zone located at 1500 W. Central Texas Expressway. This detail enforcement was citizen complaint driven about speeders in the school zone.
Officers issued 76 citations for speeding in a school zone, 17 citations other than speeding and 2 warning citations.
The Killeen Police Department reminds drivers to slow down and obey speed laws, especially in school zones. Our goal is to ensure the safety of our citizens and students as they walk and bike to and from school.

Office of Justice Programs Finalizes Assessment
In 2017, the Killeen Police Department requested assistance from the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Diagnostic Center with assessing the scope of violent crime, reviewing existing response strategies and understanding community perspectives on crime and community engagement. It was anticipated that working with the Diagnostic Center would help the Killeen Police Department with implementing proactive strategies to reduce crime, use resources more efficiently and build positive relationships with the community.
As a training and technical assistance resource, the OJP Diagnostic Center has been able to provide customized technical assistance to help other state, county, city and tribal communities build capacity to reduce violence and other serious crimes in their jurisdictions, and it is anticipated that their assistance will provide the same benefits to the Police Department and citizens of Killeen.
Chief Kimble States “A safer Killeen is a goal we all share as a community, and it is believed that the in depth analysis and fresh perspectives being presented by the Office of Justice Programs can provide a blueprint of effective strategies that will allow us to focus our resources and meet that objective.”
On Monday, June 25, 2018, at 1:30PM representatives from the OJP Diagnostic Center will meet with the Killeen Police Department, local stakeholder agencies and community representatives in the Community Room of the Police Headquarters, located at 3304 Community Blvd., to deliver the findings of the assessment and recommended strategies that can be implemented to achieve a sustainable reduction in violent crime, while maintaining positive relationships with the community. Specifically, the presentation will outline:
- Analysis of key findings
- Model programs for violence reduction
- Recommendations for improvements in crime reduction practices and community engagement

Killeen Police Respond to Large Fight and Make Multiple Arrests

On July 15, 2017, at approximately 6:19 p.m., off-duty Killeen Police Officers working a security detail inside the Killeen Mall located 2100 S. WS Young Dr. called out a large fight involving over 30 juveniles and young adults. Multiple on-duty units responded to the scene to assist and restore order. As officers began arriving, the crowd dispersed, but multiple smaller groups continued fighting inside and outside of the mall building.
Initial reports of the incident indicated shots were fired inside the mall, but officers were unable to verify the report. Because of the report of shots fired, several of the first responding officers formed a quick react team and swept through the entire mall searching for armed suspects or possible victims. Neither were located.
The initial officers on scene were able to identify some of the instigators. Responding units were subsequently able to locate and stop some of those individuals as they attempted to depart the scene. Inside one vehicle that was stopped, officers located two handguns, one of which was reported stolen out of Austin.
There were a total eight arrests – four juveniles and four adults. All were male except for one female. All eight individuals were charged with Riot. The female was also charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon.
There were no significant injuries or property damage reported.

Killeen Police need your help locating Bryant Pacheco, who may have information to assist the detectives in furthering their homicide investigation. Detectives continue to investigate the homicide of Eric Dieter Hill, who was found deceased in the 6500 block of Taree Loop, on January 11, 2017.

Killeen Police Investigate Shooting
The Killeen Police Department is investigating a late night shooting.
Killeen Police Officers were dispatched to the Stone Hill Apartments located at 101 W Central Texas Expressway, on March 30, 2017 at 11:17 p.m. in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found a 18 year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was transported to the Baylor Scott & White Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers were told that the victim was visiting the apartments when a gunshot was heard and the victim was wounded.
Suspects have been identified and this case continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD Investigates Aggravated Robbery at Dollar General

The Killeen Police Department is investigating an aggravated robbery of a Dollar General store.
Killeen Police responded to the Dollar General, located at 3107 E. Stan Schlueter Loop on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 10:02 p.m., after receiving a 911 call telling them the store had just been robbed. Upon the officers’ arrival, they learned that two male suspects entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The men then fled the store on foot.
The suspects are described as follows:
1st Suspect is a black male, approximately 5’07” wearing a black hooded shirt, gray pants and white shoes.
2nd Suspect is a black male, approximately 5’07” with a bushy haircut, facial hair, wearing a gray hooded shirt with a black hat, black pants, and black shoes.
The Killeen Police Department Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate this Robbery and information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD Investigates Crash on Interstate Highway 14 – UPDATE

The pedestrian involved in this incident, Darrell Kees, 44 of Katy, Texas, succumbed to his injuries this morning at Baylor Scott and White Hospital. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Barfield at 5:17 a.m. The Killeen Police Department continues to investigate this incident. Investigators are still looking for the driver of the third vehicle involved in this incident. Killeen Police investigate a late night crash on Interstate Highway 14.
Killeen Police responded to a 911 call in reference to a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at 11:22 p.m. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found a white male lying on the ground near the Trimmier Exit off ramp; he was immediately airlifted to the Baylor Scott and White Hospital in critical condition.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a white Ford F350 was traveling westbound in the middle lane on IH-14 when the driver noticed a pedestrian attempting to cross northbound on the interstate. As the driver attempted to change lanes to the outside lane, the left side of her vehicle struck the pedestrian. A white Chevy Sonic and an unknown vehicle were also traveling westbound in the outside and exit lanes, when the pedestrian was seen in the roadway near the exit ramp. The pedestrian was struck first by the Chevy Sonic and subsequently struck by the unknown vehicle, which fled the scene. The occupants of the vehicles reported no injuries.
The current condition of the 44 year-old male pedestrian is critical but stable.
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit continues to investigate this crash and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police and Fire Departments investigate an early morning crash – UPDATE

Residents who reside at the Twin Creek Apts and 56th Street West may return to their homes.
Residents of 58th Street are still not clear.

KPD and KFD responded to a major crash on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 4:20 am at the Mickeys Convenience Store located at 4415 E VMB. Upon the officers arrival they found a fuel tanker and a SUV on fire. Firefighters immediately attempted to contain the fire and officers began an evacuation process within immediate area.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the fuel tanker was refueling the gas pumps, when an SUV hit the tanker, causing a fire and explosion. The fire caused major damage to the convenience store, a Killeen fire truck and six additional vehicles. One casualty has been confirmed and no other injuries were reported. The name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This case continues to be investigated and more information will be released had it becomes available.
