Killeen Police Investigate Death of a One-Year-Old Child
For Immediate Release
July 13th, 2017
On Friday, May 12th, 2017, at approximately 1:02 p.m., Killeen Police Officers responded to the 5300 block of Sydney Harbour Ct. after receiving a call about a one-year-old child who was not breathing. The caller advised that the child she was caring for had fallen asleep in his car seat and had been strangled by the safety strap.
Officers arrived and found the child unresponsive and not breathing. First responders performed CPR on the child and were able to resuscitate him. The child was then transported to Metroplex Hospital by ambulance.
Investigators learned that the caller was running an in-home, unlicensed daycare out of her residence. She stated she left the child sleeping in his car seat unattended. She stated that she returned when she heard another child crying and found the victim unconscious and not breathing, with one of the safety straps around his neck.
The child succumbed to his injuries on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at McLane Children’s Hospital in Temple. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Don Engleking, who also ordered an autopsy.
An arrest has not been made in this case. Detectives have forwarded the case to the Bell County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Killeen Police Respond to a Domestic Disturbance with Shots Fired
For Immediate Release
July 12th, 2017
On Tuesday, July 11th, 2017, at approximately 3:03 p.m., Killeen Police Officers responded to a home in the 3500 block of Ida Dr after receiving a call about an active shooter. The caller advised they heard the sound of a gunshot and observed a male point a handgun at other male.
Officers arrived and located three persons, who were determined to be brothers, involved in the incident. During the course of the investigation, officers discovered that two of the brothers began physically fighting with each other.
During the fight, one of the brothers retrieved a handgun inside their home. The third brother exited the home in an attempt to get help from neighbors, followed by the other two brothers. Witnesses stated that they heard shouting and several gunshots. They stated they then observed the suspect pointing a handgun at the victim. No one was struck by the gunfire. The suspect sustained minor injuries during the fight.
Officers placed one male under arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The suspect was transported to the Killeen Police Department Jail. The Killeen Police Department continues to investigate this case and it will be reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

Killeen Police Identify Suspect in Aggravated Assault

Update:
June 16, 2017
The suspect in this case is identified as Sean Dixon, 32, of Killeen. Detectives screened this case with the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and obtained complaints charging Dixon with two counts of Aggravated Assault. Bond was set at $100,000 for each charge. He was released after posting $200,000 bond.
Also arrested in the incident was Peter Minott, 28. Minott was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of Harker Heights for Aggravated Assault.

Killeen Police Respond to an Aggravated Assault
On Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at approximately 5:19 p.m., Killeen Police Officers responded to the 5200 block of Birmingham Circle after receiving a call about people fighting. The caller advised a male entered a residence with a gun. Officers arrived and located two victims with lacerations from a bladed object. Officers placed one male under arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The suspect, who was also injured during the incident, was treated at a local hospital and taken to the Killeen Police Department Jail. The two victims were transported to local hospitals with injuries and later released. The Killeen Police Department continues to investigate this case and it will be reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office.

Killeen Police Obtain Charge in 2016 Murder

June 15, 2017 – Update
The Killeen Police Department’s Homicide Unit has continued to conduct an investigation of murder at the 1300 block of Bonnie Drive on December 9, 2016. The Bell County District Attorney’s reviewed the case and complaints were issued charging John Eric Saenz with the Murder of Jason Francisco Munayco. John Eric Saenz was already in the Bell County Jail following his arrest on December 31, 2016, for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. Saenz was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Theodore Duffield who set his bond at 1,000,000.
The Killeen Police Department’s Homicide Unit would like to thank the public for their assistance with this case.
January 1, 2017 – UPDATE
On December 31, 2016, detectives learned that John Eric Saenz was in the Austin area and they began working with members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force. After further investigation members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force were able to locate him during a traffic stop. Saenz was taken into custody without incident at approximately 8:00pm; he was transported to the Travis County Jail where he awaits extradition.

December 29, 2016
Killeen Police need help locating a wanted man who is believed to be Armed and Dangerous.
Officers were dispatched to the 1300 block of Bonnie Drive at approximately 11:11pm, on Friday, December 9, 2016, after receiving a 911 call in reference to shots fired. Upon the officers’ arrival they located 41 year old Jason Francisco Munayco with a gunshot wound. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced him deceased at 12:24am, on Saturday, December 10, 2016; he ordered an autopsy to be performed at the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas.
Through the investigation detectives determined John Eric Saenz was at the residence during this shooting. This case was reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging Saenz with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke issued a warrant for his arrest and suggested a bond of $500,000. Detectives would also like to speak to him about his involvement in this Homicide.

Killeen Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Stan Schleuter Loop
June 2, 2017
On June 1, 2017 at about 2:58 p.m., a silver 2005 BMW was stopped facing north in the inside lane of Bunny Trail attempting to turn left to travel west on Stan Schlueter Loop. A Maroon 2006 GMC Envoy was stopped in the northbound middle lane, also turning left to go west on Stan Schlueter Loop. A Yellow 2006 Nissan Xterra SUV was traveling east in the outside lane of Stan Schlueter Loop. According to witnesses, the Nissan ran the solid red light as the BMW and GMC entered the intersection. The front of the Nissan struck the driver’s side door area of the BMW, causing it to spin and strike the driver side of the GMC SUV. The Nissan and BMW sustained major damage.
The driver of the BMW was initially transported to Seton Medical Center of Harker Heights by Killeen EMS. She was subsequently flown to Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Temple, Texas, where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased by medical staff at 5:22pm.
The deceased is identified as 23 year-old Maria Clarissa Aro Tabonares of Killeen.
The crash continues to be investigated by our Traffic Unit. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Investigate Early Morning Shooting

The Killeen Police Department investigates an early morning shooting.
On April 28, 2017 at approximately 12:21 a.m., officers were dispatched to the College Park Apartments located at 1201 N. College St. in reference to a shooting victim. Upon arrival, a gunshot victim was located outside of the complex. The 22 year-old male told officers he was shot by an unknown suspect.
Officers canvassed the area and located the crime scene in the 100 block of W. Dean. No suspects were located.
The victim was transported to Baylor Scott and White Hospital and is currently listed in fair condition. The KPD Criminal Investigation Division is investigating this incident.

Killeen Police Investigate Shooting
The Killeen Police Department is investigating a late night shooting.
Killeen Police Officers were dispatched to the Stone Hill Apartments located at 101 W Central Texas Expressway, on March 30, 2017 at 11:17 p.m. in reference to a gunshot victim. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found a 18 year-old female victim with a gunshot wound to the leg. She was transported to the Baylor Scott & White Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Officers were told that the victim was visiting the apartments when a gunshot was heard and the victim was wounded.
Suspects have been identified and this case continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.

KPD Investigates Aggravated Robbery at Dollar General
March 30, 2017
The Killeen Police Department is investigating an aggravated robbery of a Dollar General store.
Killeen Police responded to the Dollar General, located at 3107 E. Stan Schlueter Loop on Wednesday, March 29, 2017, at 10:02 p.m., after receiving a 911 call telling them the store had just been robbed. Upon the officers’ arrival, they learned that two male suspects entered the store and demanded money from the clerk. At least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. The men then fled the store on foot.
The suspects are described as follows:
1st Suspect is a black male, approximately 5’07” wearing a black hooded shirt, gray pants and white shoes.
2nd Suspect is a black male, approximately 5’07” with a bushy haircut, facial hair, wearing a gray hooded shirt with a black hat, black pants, and black shoes.
The Killeen Police Department Violent Crimes Unit continues to investigate this Robbery and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police and Fire Departments investigate an early morning crash – UPDATE

Residents who reside at the Twin Creek Apts and 56th Street West may return to their homes.
Residents of 58th Street are still not clear.

KPD and KFD responded to a major crash on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 4:20 am at the Mickeys Convenience Store located at 4415 E VMB. Upon the officers arrival they found a fuel tanker and a SUV on fire. Firefighters immediately attempted to contain the fire and officers began an evacuation process within immediate area.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the fuel tanker was refueling the gas pumps, when an SUV hit the tanker, causing a fire and explosion. The fire caused major damage to the convenience store, a Killeen fire truck and six additional vehicles. One casualty has been confirmed and no other injuries were reported. The name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This case continues to be investigated and more information will be released had it becomes available.
