Killeen Police and Fire Departments investigate an early morning crash
KPD and KFD responded to a major crash on Friday, August 12, 2016, at 4:20 am at the Mickeys Convenience Store located at 4415 E VMB. Upon the officers arrival they found a fuel tanker and a SUV on fire. Firefighters immediately attempted to contain the fire and officers began an evacuation process within immediate area.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the fuel tanker was refueling the gas pumps, when an SUV hit the tanker, causing a fire and explosion. The fire caused major damage to the convenience store, a Killeen fire truck and six additional vehicles. One casualty has been confirmed and no other injuries were reported. The name has been withheld pending notification of next of kin.
This case continues to be investigated and more information will be released had it becomes available.

Killeen Police Investigate Rollover Crash
The Killeen Police Department Traffic Section is investigating a one car rollover crash on East Central Texas Expressway just before 8:00am this morning.
Officers responded to a report of a crash at 7:46am in the 5200 block of E. Central Texas Expressway, involving a Blue Dodge Durango that had turned over and pinned the driver inside. Upon their arrival, the officers located the vehicle upside down on Central Texas Expressway in the construction area near the bridge that was under construction.
The preliminary investigation revealed the driver was traveling east in the outside lane of Central Texas Expressway when the vehicle hit a construction barrel then continued east hitting a concrete barrier. The vehicle then crossed two lanes of traffic to the north leaving the roadway onto the dirt area and hitting the concrete bridge wall causing the vehicle to overturn pinning the driver inside.
The Killeen Fire Department responded and was able to free the driver from the vehicle. The 38 year old driver was airlifted to the Baylor Scott & White Hospital in critical condition. There were no other vehicles involved in this crash and the driver was the only occupant of the Dodge Durango.
Alcohol is believed to be contributing factor in this crash.
This crash continues to be investigated and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Investigate Death of Fort Hood Soldier
Killeen Police are investigating the death of a Fort Hood soldier on Cantabrian.
Officers received a report of possible deceased male in the 3300 block of Cantabrian on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at 8:06am. Upon the officers’ arrival they located a deceased male lying face down in front of his residence. During the investigation the officers learned that the male was a 24 year old Fort Hood soldier who had recently returned from West Africa. Due to conditions in West Africa and because the male’s cause of death was unknown at the time, precautionary measures were put into place.
Officers deployed the City of Killeen HAZMAT Team to respond to the residence at 3306 Cantabrian. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke pronounced the male deceased at 8:26am and ordered an autopsy to be performed. The male’s body has been removed and taken to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center to run a test for Ebola; we should learn the results of that test by the end of the day.
There is no confirmation that Ebola is present. Because of the circumstances surrounding this death the Killeen Police Department felt it was better to err on the side of caution in the interest of public safety. This investigation is in collaboration with Fort Hood authorities.
The name of the soldier has been withheld at this time due to notification of his next of kin.
Detectives continue to investigate this death and information will be released as it becomes available.

Killeen Police Seek Man Wanted for Robbing Golden Corral
Killeen man wanted for robbing Golden Corral in Killeen, on October 22, 2014.

Officers responded to the Golden Corral located at 1420 E. Central Texas Expressway at 10:15pm, after receiving an alarm and a 911 call telling them the business had just been robbed. Upon the officers arrival they met with the manager who told them a Hispanic male had just robbed him at gunpoint.
The manager told officers that he was walking an employee out into the parking lot when he saw a former employee in the parking lot. The three began to talk until the current employee left. The former employee then showed the manager a handgun and forced him back inside the business. Once inside he forced the manager back to the office and made him open the safe. Another employee was inside the office at the time and he had her lay down onto the floor. The suspect then tied up the manager and employee using cords from the surveillance equipment and fled in one of the employee’s vehicle; that vehicle was later found abandoned in the 2900 block of Illinois.
The detectives had this case reviewed by the Bell County District Attorney’s Office and a complaint was returned charging Orlando Enrique Fleischlauer, also known as Orlando Pabon-Fleischauer, with Aggravated Robbery. A warrant was issued by Justice of the Peace Garland Potvin for his arrest.

Killeen Police Arrest Man for Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer
Officers with the Killeen Police Department and the Bell County Sheriff’s Department work together to arrest a Killeen man charged with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer.
On Friday, October 24, 2014, detectives with the Killeen Police Department obtained a complaint affidavit from the Bell County District Attorney’s charging 25 year old Harlan Lee Conway with Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer. This charge stemmed from an incident on Wednesday, October 15, 2014, in the 5000 block of Saddle Ridge Dr., when Conway charged at the officer with a knife; Conway was detained at that time but later released for further investigation into the incident.
Killeen detectives have been attempting to serve this warrant since it was issued by Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke on Friday, October 24, 2014, but were unable to locate Conway. Through their investigation they learned of a residence on Oakala Rd. where it was believed that Conway was staying. Deputies with the Bell County Sheriff’s Department and detectives with the Killeen Police Department arrived at that residence earlier today. Before they could speak with anyone at the residence, Conway was seen coming outside then going back inside. They were able to convince him to surrender and he did so peacefully just before 6:00pm this evening.
Conway was taken into custody by the Bell County Sheriff’s deputies and transported to the Bell County Jail where he awaits arraignment. Justice of the Peace Bill Cooke recommended a $250,000 bond for the Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer charge.
The Killeen Police Department continues to investigate this case and other allegations that have been made. Because these allegations are in the early stages of investigation, we decline to comment on them at this time.

Killeen Police Seek Witness in Pine Drive Homicide
Killeen Police have released a sketch of a person who is a possible witness in regards to the Homicide that occurred at 1404 Pine Drive during the early morning hours on Monday, October 20, 2014. This person was seen in the area during the early morning hours and possibly has information that is pertinent to this case.
Detectives investigating this Homicide are asking if anyone can identify this person or knows how to make contact with him. They believe he has information that could assist in solving the case. Detectives are asking this person to contact them at 254-501-8936.

Killeen Police Announce Hiring of Animal Services Unit Manager
The Killeen Police Department announces the renaming of the Animal Control Unit to the Animal Services Unit to better align the unit’s name with its mission of service and care for animals.
Additionally, the department wishes to announce the hiring of Mr. Edward W. Tucker as the new Animal Services Unit Manager. Mr. Tucker served 30 years with the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of Sergeant Major. “Ed brings with him a great deal of management and leadership experience and love for animals that we believe will help propel the Animal Services Unit to the next level. We are glad to have him as a member of our team,” said Police Chief Dennis Baldwin. Changing the unit’s name was one of the first recommendations suggested by Mr. Tucker on day one, said Baldwin.
“We would also like to thank Commander Lee Caufield for his efforts over these past several months in addressing the challenges facing the unit. Lee’s steadfast, professional leadership and inclusive management style has helped to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the unit. Moreover, the service level and care of animals has been elevated under his leadership,” said Baldwin.
Mr. Tucker will be available for interviews on Thursday, August 28, 2014, at 10:00 A.M. The interviews will be conducted at the Killeen Animal Shelter located at 3118 Commerce Drive.

School Zones Are Back on Monday!
The Killeen Police Department would like to remind all motorists that beginning Monday, August 25, 2014; a new school year begins.
On Monday, August 25, 2014, motorists will be seeing more children walking to and from school. The Killeen Police Department is asking all motorists to be mindful of the extra pedestrians and that the school zones will be in effect and will be enforced.
Remember the speed limits will be decreased in a designated school zone; the majority of school zones begin at 7:00am and are usually 20 mph. Please remember children are known to dart out into the roadway and it is asked that you give extra attention when driving.
We would also like to remind you that it is against the law to talk on a cell phone while operating a motor vehicle within a designated school zone unless the vehicle is stopped or the device is used with a hands free device or to make an emergency call.
It is against the law to use a wireless communication device to view, send or compose an electronic message or engage other application software while operating a motor vehicle in a designated school zone.

Killeen Police Announce National Night Out October 7
KILLEEN TO JOIN CITIES NATIONWIDE FOR
‘AMERICA’S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME’
On Tuesday, October 7th, neighborhoods throughout Killeen are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the “31st Annual National Night Out” (NNO) crime and drug prevention event.
National Night Out is designed to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
- Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts;
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and
- Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 6 to 9 p.m. on October 7th, residents in neighborhoods throughout Killeen and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Neighborhoods are encouraged to host a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, contests, and youth activities. Call and register your neighborhood so they will get a visit from the police department, fire department and McGruff the Crime Dog.
“The National Night Out program is an outstanding campaign to help build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships. On October 7th, we invite citizens of Killeen and neighborhoods nationwide to join forces with us to give Crime & Drugs a Going Away Party.” It’s also a chance to have a really good time!

Killeen Police Arrest One After Standoff
Killeen Police involved in early morning standoff on Armadillo Drive ends peacefully.
Officers responded to 2701 Armadillo Drive, after receiving a 911 call at 3:50am, on Friday, August 08, 2014, in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon their arrival, they were told a female had been assaulted by her boyfriend.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a male and female were involved in a verbal disagreement that turned physical and the male had left the residence prior to the officers’ arrival. A short time later, officers were notified that the suspect had returned to the residence and were advised that the victim was being held against her will and there was a possibly weapon involved. After several attempts were made to speak to the suspect, the Tactical Response Unit was deployed. For approximately two hours, members of the unit spoke to the suspect on and off and convinced him to surrender; at 8:52am, he was taken into custody, without incident, and transported to the Killeen City Jail. The female was released unharmed.
The suspect, 31 year old Andres Carrisalez of Killeen, is being charged with Assault with Bodily Injury on a Family Member, outstanding traffic warrants and a warrant for Human Trafficking by the U.S. Marshals Office.
