Killeen Police Arrest Driver for DWI Following New Year’s Day Crash
On January 1, 2026, at approximately 12:16 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Rosewood Drive and Bronze Drive for a major single-vehicle crash. The Killeen Police Department Traffic Unit responded while working a New Year’s Eve DWI enforcement detail.
The preliminary investigation indicates a black Dodge Charger was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the roadway near Lightning Rock Trail, crossed Bronze Drive, struck the side of a residence, went through a privacy fence, and rolled over before coming to rest along Rosewood Drive just south of Bronze Drive. The driver initially left the scene but returned shortly after. No other injuries were reported.
During the investigation, the driver was found to be intoxicated and was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. She was transported to the Killeen City Jail.
Amaiyah Angela Dawson, 20, was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Cliff Coleman, who set her bond at $3,000. She was transported to the Bell County Jail and later released after posting bond.
The crash remains under investigation by the Traffic Unit.
